Copywriters after ChatGPT crashes again… by @longhaircopy

Want to close more sales calls?

These tips will help make the sale:

1. Be totally prepared for your meeting: don’t wait until the last minute to research your client.

2. Be SELECTIVE: people can sense desperation. So have a list of requirements your prospect must have in order to work with you.

3. Have good audio: get decent headphones with a microphone. It will pay off later.

4. Let THEM talk: let the prospect do the talking. You’re there to answer questions.

5. Have a quote in mind: you should have a BARE MINIMUM quote you’re willing to give for the work. The client will almost always ask HOW MUCH? You need an answer ready.

Pick just ONE of these tips and I'll bet you make more sales.

Good luck!

When I first started sending pitches, I was a ball of NERVES.

I’d re-read my pitch emails like 5 times…

Double check my portfolio…

Stall for half an hour…

Because I was afraid.

Now?

I don’t give a shit.

They like it, don’t like it.

I. DON’T. CARE.

Why?

Because my portfolio is solid.

The work speaks for itself.

But what if you don’t have a portfolio?

How do you get the brass balls, zero-fucks-given attitude?

2 WAYS.

First, don’t be reliant on client work for income.

AKA have a job.

Second, build your portfolio using proven sales copywriting.

My NEW course Portfolio Builders: Email copywriting teaches you exactly that.

Inside, I show you how to build a LEGIT portfolio using agency-style client briefs.

You can stop feeling jittery every time you pitch.

Because you’ll have proven sales emails as your template.

Ones you actually wrote.

Interested?

You can pre-order Portfolio Builders: Email Copywriting from the link in my bio.

But don’t wait.

I’m limiting the first run to 10 PEOPLE only.

Because I want to answer questions and give the best possible customer service to everyone who gets it.

And my time is limited.

TAP THE LINK in my bio to learn more NOW.

Email is the water of the marketing world.

Why?

Because no business can survive without it.

(unless they want to sell door-to-door).

Yeah social media marketing churns through more content.

But EVERY successful business has email marketing behind it.

The reason?

Because that’s where the sales happen!

Businesses will ALWAYS need email copywriting.

End. Of. Story.

It’s happened to me before.

You’re humming along nicely.

The client is responding.

Work’s getting done.

You’re moving toward collecting the rest of your payment.

But then everything gets STUCK.

Like a duck waddling through wet cement.

How do you get back on track?

EMAIL YOUR CLIENT.

Don’t be afraid to bug them.

But don’t go too hard…yet.

Sometimes people get sick…things happen…people need reminders.

If they NEVER respond?

This hasn’t happened to me yet.

But it has to other copywriters.

My advice here?

Be persistent, put their work on hold and don’t waste another minute until they respond.

This is why you ALWAYS get 50% (or more) up front.

Want to bash writer’s block in the face with a rock?

Then stop trying to cram every selling point into your copy.

Instead choose ONE IDEA and focus on that.

You see, most of the time writer’s “block” is just FEAR #digitalmarketing #freelancecopywriter #sales #copywriting .

You’re afraid of writing the wrong thing…

…getting harsh feedback from your client…

…not making any sales….

So what happens?

You get blocked like a kitchen sink with leftover oatmeal and coffee grounds.

(that happened to me yesterday).

The CURE TO THIS PROBLEM is to pick ONE IDEA and write it.

Don’t worry if it fails.

You can revise it later.

Or better yet…TEST IT.

So - stop procrastinating and get back to writing.

Remember: one idea.

New copywriter? You’re probably commoditizing yourself.

AKA turning yourself into TOILET PAPER.

Most never make the shift to value-based pricing.

But it’s essential if you want higher income, good clients and a life outside of work.

Here’s the usual story:

You take a copywriting job.

Even if it pays $5.

Already, you’ve been trained to compete on price.

Now, as you move up the ranks, you’re charging more.

Maybe even $100 an email.

But guess what?

It still holds you back.

Because you’re the same as 20 other copywriters who charge that.

And you’re more expensive than 1,000 other copywriters who charge less.

Since you haven’t positioned yourself as anything other than the “$100 an email copywriter” that’s all clients will see.

And you’ll attract poor quality clients with tight deadlines and bad projects.

So how do you avoid this?

For one, NEVER give a quote on the phone.

Even if the client pushes.

And when you do send a quote, never list the price PER email.

Bundle your emails together with other items like research, time for revisions, etc.

Same goes for landing pages, social media copy, whatever.

Project pricing wins.

Stay away from your one-off projects unless they’re big (like landing pages and full website rewrites).

Remember, it's OKAY if you've been commodified!

I've done it. My friends have done it. Almost everyone has.

But if you see it happening, take some time to rethink your position and make the change to value-based pricing.

Big copywriting wins? I used to be skeptical.

People landing $20K clients their first week freelancing?

Yeah, right…

Don’t get me wrong.

I still feel lots of people twist the truth to boast big copywriting achievements.

Usually they have some huge advantage…like working for an agency for the last 10 years.

NOT the same as people like me, who jumped into freelancing nostrils first (no samples, no connections besides my internet).

But after freelancing for a year, I SEE how it can happen.

For instance:

You book an email copywriting gig (this happened to me).

Your c #digitalmarketing #freelancecopywriter #sales #copywriting lient is routinely ordering emails.

Over the course of 6 months or a year, it ADDS UP.

So, am I still skeptical?

Yeah, fer chure.

Should you become a freelance copywriter? by @longhaircopy

Are you ever afraid your copy looks amateur?

I know I was when I first started copywriting.

Negative thoughts running around my mind like…

❌ Am I good enough?

❌ Do I know what I’m doing?

❌ Will this actually get my client customers?

❌ I’ve never sold anything before…

❌ Are my headlines catchy or boring?

The list goes on and on.

As I’ve gained more experience, those thoughts have mostly vanished.

Partly because I SEE the results (conversion rates) and have a general sense of what works.

But in the beginning?

I wish I’d had someone to guide me along the way.

The truth is ALL copywriters feel this way when they're starting out.

So don't be hard on yourself! #digitalmarketing #freelancecopywriter #sales #copywriting by @longhaircopy

Botched a copywriting project?

Many writers would say you’re a screw up.

But reality is much different…

I’ve seen countless people claim “they’ve never blown a deadline” or failed to deliver.

I guess they were born perfect.

If you JUST started copywriting…

Even if you’ve been doing it for years…

You’ll make a mistake every once and a while.

Guess what?

IT’S OKAY!

You’re learning.

Working “freelance” is challenging on multiple levels.

You’re responsible for researching, writing, client acquisition, proofreading, editing, invoicing, marketing…

A lot of high-focus tasks.

Now it would be a stretch to say I don’t “care” if I screw up.

But I’ve learned to acknowledge it’s the inevitable part of the learning process.

So next time some flawless copywriter brags about their perfect work record, don’t stress.

Just do your best to deliver QUALITY WORK and learn from your mistakes.
