The Wisdom Years Are the Intimacy Years

What becomes possible when you no longer need to perform for love?

Intimacy asks for presence. Desirability asks for performance. And presence is very hard to manage when you're preoccupied with being impressive.

We spend our lives pursuing the wrong thing. Most of what we call the search for intimacy is really the search for desirability — and they are not the same, though we spend decades confusing them.

The sports approach to sex has a score. Intimacy doesn't. As the performance of youth loses its appeal, something richer becomes available — for those willing to stop performing.

It ends where it has to end: with the body. As the six-packs fade, we learn to value what sexy actually is, and we start appreciating the whole package of a man rather than just the package.

It includes two men I've spoken to — one who has loved his partner for twenty-five years and quietly lost something, one who found love again at seventy-five and is glowing.

Still becoming. Still notorious.

M Sebastian Araujo brings humour, candour and plenty of colour to this week’s Wisdom Trust conversation.

We talk about love, surviving loss, finding community, and returning to the creative parts of yourself that got pushed aside.

His life keeps unfolding—and he keeps showing up curious.

What’s something you’d like to make room for again?

Getting older doesn’t mean you’re done growing.

There are still questions worth asking.
Friendships worth beginning.
Things you’ve never tried.
Parts of yourself you’re getting to know.

In this week’s Wisdom Trust Podcast, Aaron Alarcon shares how curiosity is helping him question old patterns and explore who he’s becoming after 50.

His commitment to keep dreaming throughout life stayed with me.

What’s still possible for you?

You can be surrounded by gay men and still feel invisible.

Ed Wolf knows what that's like.

For years, he felt he didn't fit in. But through the AIDS crisis, he found a deeper sense of purpose, friendship, and community.

Now 77, Ed has a message worth hearing:
“Old age is a privilege denied to many, many people.”

Our conversation is about loneliness, belonging, and finding the courage to keep saying yes to life.

Especially after 50.

What if you don’t need to “find your purpose”?
What if you just need to get curious again?

My guest Peter Langlois discovered something that lit him up enough that he eventually trained to help others experience it too.

But the real message here is bigger than any one tool.

Don’t coast through this stage of life simply because the familiar is comfortable.
Explore.
Try something.
Return to something you once loved.
Meet someone new.
Follow the thing that makes you wonder, “What if...?”

As Peter puts it:
“Don’t wait. Just try it.”

Maybe that’s enough of a purpose for today.

For gay men over 50 who believe there’s more to this stage of life. by @lorencrawford.wellness

Gay men over 50: Have you become comfortable—or have you become yourself?

There’s a difference.

Inner work isn’t just therapy.

It can be coaching. Spiritual practice. Self-inquiry. Questioning old beliefs. Listening to your body. Letting go of performance. Or finally admitting that something in your life needs to change.

There is no single path.

But there may come a point when staying comfortable costs us more than changing.

In the new episode of The Wisdom Trust, Burns Galloway and I explore inner work, authenticity, aging and why we need other men around us as we navigate what comes next.

The second half of life can be more than repeating the first.

Come join us.

**30 Days to Deeper Connection begins tomorrow.**

If your social circle has become smaller—or you’re surrounded by people but still missing meaningful connection—you are not alone.

Making new friends later in life can be difficult.

Where do you meet people?

How do you get beyond small talk?

How do you know whether someone else is also looking for a genuine friendship?

This four-week online experience gives gay men over 50 a welcoming place to meet, talk, listen, and discover what might grow from repeated conversation.

It is not therapy.

It is not dating.

And you will never be pressured to share more than feels comfortable.

It is simply an opportunity to show up and begin.

We start **tomorrow, Thursday, September 24 at 9 AM Pacific.**

The program is free when you join **The Wisdom Trust**, our free community for gay men over 50.

Sometimes the hardest part of connection is taking the first step.

This could be yours.

You can join a community and still be lonely.

Because joining isn't the same as belonging.

In this week's Wisdom Trust conversation, Steven Nofziger shares how he rebuilt his life and found community after coming out later in life.

He didn't wait for his people to magically appear.
He showed up.
He joined things.
He took some risks.
And over time, he built real friendships and a life filled with connection.

For gay men over 50, I think there's an important challenge here:
Don't just join. Participate.
Introduce yourself.
Start a conversation.
Let another man get to know you.

Finding your people requires showing up.

What if meeting new people didn’t have to feel so awkward?

Many gay men over 50 want deeper friendships, but walking up to a stranger and trying to create a meaningful connection can feel uncomfortable.

That is why I created 30 Days to Deeper Connection.

Over four weekly online gatherings, you’ll meet other gay men over 50 inside a warm, facilitated space that makes conversation easier.

You don’t need to be outgoing.

You don’t need to know anyone.

You simply need to be willing to show up.

We begin Thursday, September 24 at 9 AM Pacific.

The program is free for members of The Wisdom Trust, and joining the community is also free.

As a bonus, anyone who attends at least three of the four gatherings will be entered into a draw for a private 45-minute coaching call with me—a value of $275.

Join The Wisdom Trust here, then look for the program in the Calendar:
