There was a lot of healing that came with summer. by @losthorizonsxx

Many may not know, but my first ever introductory to backpacking was hiking the 500 mile colorado trail from Denver to Durango. I had only spent 1 night prior in the woods about a month before I embarked on that journey. I was 21, and really had no idea what i was getting myself into. I quickly fell in love with the mountains and simplicity of life on the trail- all I had to do was walk a lot each day, eat and sleep. At the time, it was the most challenging thing I had done physically and mentally in my life. It changed my life forever when I finished it. I went back and hiked it again the following summer. Shortly after that- I started trail running and racing my first ultras. I was obsessed with getting miles in and seeing how far I could go and how much I could push my body. I started beating my body up- and I liked how that pain felt in my body- it was an escape for me to cover up the emotional pain really- because if i showed i was strong on the outside, i wouldnt have to deal with whats going on inside. The mountains, especially the San Juans- have been the only constant in my life since ive met them when I was 19. And here I am, 33- grieving at the reality of what I thought my life would be like at this age, but it is not anything like i imagined it would be- its a lot different. Through all the heartbreak, rejection, confusion, conflicts, insecurities, growing pains- the mountains have been the one thing that have always held me, accepted me, saw me, protected me and taught me about myself through all these years more than anyone else ever has. Ive learned recently that I have used running among other things as a coping mechanism to deal with pain because in most cases I would rather feel the physical pain more than the emotional pain because of course thats hard to face- there are many layers. Learning to unravel the layers and face what comes at me- truthfully to myself. I wouldn't have the strength i do without these hardships and without these mountains guiding me through it all though. Photos from early days on the trails to present day. Its been a really beautiful journey. by @losthorizonsxx

A big thank you to @jacklndn for making a delightful surprise guest appearance and playing for hours on end- and everyone that came out for the party and danced till the sun came up (almost). It was a special birthday to say the least.

A few weeks ago, i set out to fast pack the 486 mile Colorado Trail. My plan was to complete the trail from Denver to Durango in 15 days- resupply at certain places with certain people with no rest days. Boy was i in for a treat. 7 days in and 200 somethin miles later, i had to call it- my body was wrecked, my mind was fried, my feet were so swollen, i had gotten unexpected blisters on my feet (havent had blisters in a decade), the most painful ass chafing anyone could ever imagine that left me crying for hours on the trail, i hadnt slept much, and had rolled my ankle so many times it finally came to be a mostly sprained ankle. I was averaging 30-40 miles a day whether it be running or fast hiking- it felt fast and furious. It was a lot of time spent alone, which im not sure i was ready for, a lot of time in my head and my own thoughts...i cried a lot and still cry over the reality that i did not complete my goal i set out for and all the other emotions that come with it...honestly- it was a rough go, with everything leading up to my departure date, its a miracle i even made it to the start. I even took a few days off and got back on trail but my ankle is so sprained i made it only 35 more miles. In ways i thought that being on the trail would help me through all the pain i have been through this year, but really seeing now that it may have caused more pain physically and even emotionally. I couldnt have done as much as i did without my support i had along the way, friends driving hundreds of miles to bring me to and from trailheads and making sure i was fed and rested and picking me up when i needed to be...so many amazing friends. Thank you all who believed in me and supported this crazy mission of mine..maybe ill be able tackle it another year, when im in a better head space. In the meantime, i have some much needed rest and healing to do... by @losthorizonsxx

These are the moments i live for..the moments i cherish, the moments i will always look back on.
