Today marks the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, a series of demonstrations that began in response to a police raid on the Stonewall Inn in New York in the early hours of the morning of 28th June 1969. These demonstrations are widely credited as the catalyst for the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️✊

A key figure in these demonstrations was Marsha P. Johnson, also known as the “Saint of Christopher Street”. A Black trans rights activist, sex worker, and drag artist, Marsha dedicated her life to advocating for the rights of the LGBTQ+ community, especially homeless queer youth and people living with HIV/AIDS.
