Chicago & Dublin trip wrapped up It’s never about where you are, but who you’re with. Blessed to have the maddest of parents, most supportive girlfriend and best mates in the world. 10 months after moving to Australia I got to catch up with all of my family & friends, run two marathons and enjoy a couple of beers along the way Chicago Marathon was a bit of a disappointment after putting in so much work over the last few months and not see a big result but I knew the risk I was taking. The rest of that Chicago trip was special though, what a city. Jumped in last minute to Dublin marathon aiming for a small PB but the legs weren’t cooperating after running Chicago two weeks beforehand. Luckily I got to see the oul lad smash his first ever marathon in some of the toughest conditions imaginable for a race. 3 weeks, infinite laughs and memories to last a lifetime. Back to the drawing board to plan my next running goals and a big year in 2027. The comeback will be monumental 🤙🏼 by @lukehmooney
“This is where most people quit… this is where I shine through.” 🔥 The wall isn’t the end of your race — it’s a decision. Micro decisions: lean in and attack it, or quit. A swing and a miss at Chicago 2026 I knew going into this race that everything needed to go perfectly to break 2:40 in the marathon. The 16 week block was consistently good, no perfect sessions or races but nothing missed in the lead up. Stacking miles like never before, weeks and weeks of grafting every single day and I was able to look back on the mountain of work that I’d done and be proud of myself. The marathon is the great equaliser in running, it will show you any weaknesses you have. This time it turned out to be my stomach for me. Taking on too much fuel too early on and the heat had my stomach under too much stress from about 19k. After the 20k marker I was stopped at a water station trying to get sick to alleviate the feeling in my stomach but nothing was moving. Every water station after that was the same for about 10k when I decided to just jog the rest of the race in. After I made peace with that decision, I got to enjoy the atmosphere of the race, the support in Chicago is insane. It’s not every day you get to run a world major all the way across the world and I wasn’t letting my time dictate whether I was going to enjoy it or not. Running your goal time is best case scenario. PB’s are great. But knowing you tried your best is the only thing you can control. I’ll be back to Chicago to run a great race some day. There will be more marathons in between and I will achieve all the time goals I want. For now, I’m still enjoying some time in Chicago and then it’ll be back to work 🏃🏻 Big shoutout to my boy @wboyledub / @threshcoaching for getting me into the shape to even consider having a go at this goal. It’s been a pleasure my brother ♥️ by @lukehmooney
Chicago Marathon, one of the heaviest but most enjoyable days I’ve had out on the roads. Had a good 20k, then a terrible time, then finally decided to try enjoy the last few k and had a blast. Would have been the biggest miracle ever if I pulled it off, but was happy to roll the dice. Chicago Marathon, I’ll be back 😏 Shoutout to Pookie for being #1 supporter the last few months while I’ve been insufferable… @annali.salman by @lukehmooney
Best of luck and happy stomping to the 1st willing subject of my hair-brained idea @lukehmooney in the 2026 @chimarathon When this all started going off in my head like fireworks Luke was one of the many people that immediately shot to mind and I was determined to catch him before he ran Chicago. Can’t wait to see you leave it all out there 🫡 #art #running by @lukehmooney
Chicago Marathon tomorrow, here’s the full training breakdown 👉🏼 Crazy to see the totals like this That 6 weeks between races was the most enjoyable training I’ve ever done Elevation is crazy in Sydney This absolutely sucked, was very sick leading up to this but it was fun to give it a go regardless A graft from start to finish. Bit of a dogfight but was very happy with my performance Big session in the heat, back half of this session was 25-28 degrees so wasn’t surprised that the wheels fell off a bit Heaps of time around MP Two 10 milers, 5 weeks apart. Felt so much stronger in the second one. Taper tantrums have been avoided pretty well with some workouts that have kept the legs moving. Couldn’t feel better going into the race It’s been a mental 16 weeks, so much graft has been put in. I’m excited to show all of that work. We’re just there. Time to race tomorrow 🏁 by @lukehmooney
Last big long run of the block complete last Sunday! Been a mental last few weeks and the body’s definitely feeling the fatigue. Still plenty of time to let it come around but made the call not to push it in this session, which definitely paid off. Not long to go 😏 by @lukehmooney
The dream is alive. Sub 2:40 in Chicago is still very much on the cards, but it’s gonna take everything I’ve got. This block has been anything but easy, two races that haven’t gone to plan and now a key long run that I felt I fell short. There’s still plenty of fight left in this dog and I’ve got two and a half weeks to freshen up. We’re going to find out what happens, make sure you hit the follow button to see for yourself. Big love, LM by @lukehmooney
Thursday-Saturday before my biggest long run of the block (3x10k) Had heaps of easy mileage last week to get the legs right before Sunday. You’ll have to follow along to see how that went 🤙🏼 Swear if this audio doesn’t work I’m deleting Instagram by @lukehmooney
