A study of small sculptures before firing.

Hold in your hand, hang on your wall…

These little ones will first be available at my open studio @pdxopenstudios in a couple weeks.

Ooh, a caption for each photo-

No one ever stopped outside my booth when I was making mugs and bowls to figure out what they were…

…and now I watch people debating and discussing before they’ve even arrived.

They point to show their companions, and furrow their brows in confusion. “Is it wood, paper, plaster? Ohhhh, it’s porcelain. “

“It looks like whale bones, coral, a hive, a sea shell, a mushroom, a turtle shell, bacteria under a microscope, something found.”

Yes.

Two weeks later and still fondly on my mind. @artinthepearl is my new favorite show for so many reasons (hometown advantage for one), most of all because this show is tailor made for artists by artists and that difference in support, consideration for our time and efforts, and being treated as integral rather that incidental to an event is everything. Like whoa. by @lulapottery

Packing up for @artinthepearl Sat/Sun 10-5, Mon 10-4 Booth S67 (in the SE corner of the show NW 8th & Davis)

I remember when I used to get bored taking photos of mugs and bowls-not having that problem currently. Here’s seven shots of the same sculpture and that was me pairing them down.

Cozy glow in the park blocks this morning. I’m camped out @artinthepearl booth S 67 (corner of NW 8th and Davis) today until 5, Monday until 4 with hundreds of incredible artists. Come see us!

This is the one I shared a video of while I was drilling seven million tiny divots into it. It has become one my favorite and most laborious textures.

I see colonies of single cell organisms, moss spores, bone pores, and coral.

Shadows are integral to my wall sculptures, beautiful in natural or ambient light, but also…emanating light.

My booth will incorporate a lighting display this weekend at @artinthepearl. Find me on the SE corner of Davis and 8th. Booth S67

It seems clear now-but my “lull” of the last six months, of quietly reading, and gathering inspiration, and developing materials and, not quite knowing what I was going to do or how, and wondering if anything would come from it-w̲a̲s̲ the figuring it out. It only feels fruitless until it everything clicks. The click feels like it comes out of nowhere but that’s not true in the slightest.

This piece found its home in Edmonds last weekend-I’m developing a collection, several categorized fields of inquiry under an overarching concept. I’ve been writing almost as much as I’ve been in the studio. A guide for me, and for the work. Chicken or egg, I’m not sure-all I know is I am unscrambled. More on all that soon…
