Sights, sounds and smells from our first few months back on the motherland. by @m.h.thomas

We are selling our 4/5 bedroom/3 bath beautiful home that we have pain stakingly refurbished over the last 4 years. Some highlights of the renovation include:

- Increasing the internal square footage of the house through a rigorous planning process
- The house is now extremely well insulated with underfloor heating
- Bi-fold doors off the sitting room fully open maximising airflow during the summer months.
- The rear extension overlooks the majority of the half acre land parcel
- Our house is connected to mains gas, a rarity in the village
- The patio off the sitting room uses original tiles from the roof that are over 300 years old.
- There is loads of off street parking for you friends and family
- The study can be converted to a fifth bedroom when you have friends and family stay over

We are extremely proud of what we have accomplished and will be sad to see her go. If you want a personal tour, please get in touch and we will show you around.

We’re putting this beauty on the market after a long and thorough renovation. She is unrecognisable from when we first bought it before Covid. Let me know what you think. 🏡 by @m.h.thomas

The past couple of days has been spent on the Isle of Man, witnessing some of the greatest feats of bravery and courage that you will find anywhere on this earth.

The Isle of Man TT (Tourist Trophy) has been run for over 100 years and is the oldest motorsport event in the world. It is also the hardest, most risky and definitely one of the longest closed circuit races going. At 37.73 miles long, on single carriage way roads on this weather beaten isle in the Irish Sea, its takes a special person to saddle up. Especially on modern motorcycle technology which keep pushing the boundaries of what is possible on two wheels. Bikes have been fast for a long time, but with 200+ hp motors, excellent suspension and grippy tyres; average speeds at this event keep on creeping up. @hickyracer60 averaged 136mph (218kph) last year on his BMW. Like all motorsport videos, this footage does not do reality justice. It’s surreal and has to be seen to be believed. I’m coming back, guaranteed. Meeting @daveytodd74 was cool as well.

Of course when things go wrong, they go wrong in a big way. And this race has its fair share of tragedy. 265 riders have lost their lives competing here to date. Everyone has stayed rubber down so far this year, long may it continue.

Finally, @dunlop.michael achieved a feat no person had ever done. 27 TT wins, beating his Uncle Joey on 26. I was a lucky guy to witness him come to winners bay and celebrate with his team yesterday. Congratulations.

And that’s a wrap!

Wow, where to start? Just over a week ago, I lined up to take on an epic cycle across the Pyrenees and back. Summary results were 44th position out of 151 starters. Covered an average distance of 241km per day for 6 days 12 hours and 30mins, with a total distance covered of 1,576km and 34,530m of climbing.

But really, they are just figures that dress up a hideously arduous set of cycling days (and nights), counterbalanced against some of the most breathtaking and arresting scenery you will ever see. The journey of mind and body cannot be succinctly portrayed or described in this forum, but hopefully some of these small format photos and video can give a glimpse of the sights I experienced.

Despite the pain (I am still enduring) I cannot understate the energy that everyones messages from around the world gave me as I slowly made my way. I thank each and every one of you, and whether I responded or not, your messages were banked and relied upon while grinding the cranks up these monster hills. It was a total surprise the level of support I received and meant the world to me. I never felt alone despite being in some of the most remote and inaccessible regions in Europe. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

A final thank to @georginamd who was a constant source of positivity at any time of the day. I had many weak moments and she was always there to guide and reframe the difficulties I was encountering. Couldn’t have done it without you… I love you.

So many more nuanced stories; like nearly taking out a 150kg wild boar at 70kmh, literately cycling into the arse of a massive horse at the same speed after midnight, getting shot at by hunters and wondering why Pyrenees sheep dogs are as big as Great Danes with the attitude of a pissed off cobra. Memories of a lifetime.

Looking forward to sharing them with you soon. Peace. by @m.h.thomas

Well, this is nearly 3 years in the making. Entered this race in February 2020, and we all know what happened shortly there after.

Postponed twice (for the above non-mentioned reason) but like Groove Armada says, you can’t turn back the hands of time. (Thank god for that!)

Tomorrow, at 6:20am French time, I’ll embark on a journey that I’m not sure what will bring, or what I’ll discover. An ultra distance self supported road cycling race traversing twice across the epic and majestic Pyrenees. 1,500km and 35,000m of ascent.

Probably won’t be surprised to hear I’m a deeply conflicted mixture of excitement, nervousness, relief and a healthy side serving of pooed pants.

500hrs and 13,000km of solo bike training (guided by the Legendary Rob Lee) takes care of some things, but leaving the riders briefing tonight, we were told to look out for hunters (it’s hunting season), cows, boars, sheep, bears and wolves.

Like, no shit… wolves (and bears).

Ok then, noted… 🥺

Those 500hrs are quite a sacrifice, and always by my side and love and support is @georginamd who has allowed me this privilege to tackle this mildly bonkers race. She coined the riders briefing tonight “CrazyCon”, which is definitely funny, but I can see her point. It’s just that through my knucklehead scull I’ll probably only realise just how crazy this thing is while I’m fighting the mental demons 4 days in at 2am and I’m halfway up the Col D’Tourmalet.

I’ll know then, she was right. But like all thick people do, I’ll line up tomorrow bright eyed and bushy tail ready and knowing the hurt locker exists somewhere out there and I am knowingly going to find it.

Happy travels legends and see you on the flip side.

You can ‘dot watch’ the race (Live GPS tracking in bio). Cap number 89
