More from the Hilda and Gordon series. These letters were exchanged between two teenage lovers over 70 years ago. Gordon had been conscripted into the army in 1953 for his National Service. Due to the fragile nature of the paper many of the letters are turning to dust. As I photograph them, I have a window into a far away time. Recently my father talked of his peace time military service with me. These same stories I had heard many, many times previously. He had forgotten he had told me these tales; which is understandable, as he is now 92. My mother is also 92. #nationalservice, #oldage, #1950sbritain, #postwarbritain, #letterwriting, #handwriting, #royalmail, #stilllifephotography, by @m.pearson000056
Hilda and Gordon are in their 90s. Hilda enjoys watching cowboy films and game shows on the TV. Frustratingly Gordon is deaf so it is difficult for Hilda to hold a conversation with him. Between 1952 and 1954 they were apart as Gordon was fulfilling his military national service. As was the habit of most people at the time, Hilda and Gordon corresponded by letter almost everyday. Here are just a few of the letters. These letters are now very fragile, as are Hilda and Gordon. The handwriting in these letters is strong and expressive unlike the authors. #stilllifephotography, #stilllife, #royalmail, #nationalservice, #conscription, #1950s, #oldage, #independentliving, #home, #filmphotography, by @m.pearson000056

Twenty three years ago I completed a year long project photographing the Blackpool Pleasure Beach. I was generously allowed access to the majority of this North West UK amusement park, photographing in and out of season, the public areas and the areas not usually accessible to the general public. Now cafe Royal Books have published a selection of these photographs. The books can be purchased from www.caferoyalbooks.com. #caferoyalbooks, #blackpoolpleasurebeach, #amusementparks, #britishseaside, by @m.pearson000056
Between 1952 and 1954 Hilda was separated from Gordon as he was away completing his military national service. Throughout this period they wrote to one another almost everyday. The letters have been stored in a cellar for 70 years, but due to damp conditions many letters have been fused together. #stilllifephotography, #stilllife, #royalmail, #nationalservice, #1950s, #oldage, #independentliving, #home, by @m.pearson000056
