SCSC x Machine Ltd — ESPRESSO 101

Thank you to those who came by to our Espresso 101 event! We hope you enjoyed the coffee and the affogato, and hopefully you didn’t leave the event too caffeinated!

Special thanks to the @machine_ltd team for their hospitality and letting us use their beautiful space, and to @sl.owcoffee for providing us with incredible coffee!

We hope to see you in the next one! ☕️ by @machine_ltd

Happy birthday @sanray.nz 🎉

The team at San Ray saw their second year on Ponsonby Road last week, and what better way to celebrate than with a… machine service!

Follow along as Oscar gives the Slayer Steam X and Mahlkönig E80S an annual preventative-maintenance service — making sure everything’s running in tip-top shape so their tasty @eighthirty coffee keeps pouring at its best.

You’ll find San Ray at 118 Ponsonby Road, open:
Monday: 8am-2.30pm
Tuesday – Friday: 8am-9pm
Saturday: 9am-9pm
Sunday: 9am-3pm by @machine_ltd

It’s not goodbye, but see you later.. or something like that.

A couple of Machine legends, Lindsey and Úna, are heading off on new adventures this month - maybe together, maybe just a coincidence. What I do know is they’ve both added so much to our company over the last 5 years, it may fall apart once they leave.

To celebrate (and commiserate) their leaving, we’re having a few drinks at Goblin tomorrow, Thursday July 9th, from 6:00pm. If you can make it, it would be great to see you there.

Cheers, Steve by @machine_ltd

Meet the very sleek @d.o.s.eonhigh, where you’ll find Reinaldo and Connie serving delicious, carefully-created signature drinks with something for everyone.

D.O.S.E runs @bespecialty on espresso, along with a fun selection of coffees from all over.

Oscar was lucky enough to have his install checked over by inspector Bobo, who reckoned the all-black @slayerespresso Steam LP and @mahlkonig E65W looked right at home on the bench.

Pay the team a visit at 5 High Street — they’re on the tools Monday to Saturday from 7.30am ☕️ by @machine_ltd

If you’re gonna ride my bumper at least put a Machine Ltd. sticker on it!

We’ve put the last few of these online, grab one and rep your go-to service team today 🛠️

Awesome to see another custom job come through the shop, and we reckon the finished build is pretty slick.

This custom @slayerespresso Single Group features all the good stuff ... powder-coated panels, aged-bronze electroplating, and fresh wooden side panels with matching accents 🛠️ by @machine_ltd

Last weekend was unreal! We had a blast sponsoring the Brewers Cup, and were so impressed by the incredible skills displayed by all 16 brewers.

A massive congratulations to Dove Chen of Grey Roasting Co., your new Brewers Cup champ for 2026, and to Woo Hyung Lee of Holiday and Old Dog, runner-up, and Saehoon Ahn of Parable House, third place—you all gave outstanding presentations, and your *very* high scores show it.

Thank you to the NZSCA for bringing Brewers back, and to the volunteers, judges, and our fellow sponsors for helping bring it to life. Bring on Brewers Cup 2027!

We’re pumped to be the grinder sponsor of NZSCA’s Barista Open Series — supporting the competitions with Mahlkönig across Aotearoa this May and June. The Barista Open involves five regional events within a new, relaxed competition format designed to help new competitors get on their pathway to Nationals. See you there!

We’re hiring!

We’re on the lookout for a Workshop Technician to join the team. They’ll be someone who takes pride in doing things properly — sharp on diagnostics, detail-driven, and reliable.

If you love hands-on work and want to be part of a passionate coffee team, we’d love to hear from you.

What were you up to in 2017? Machine was being run out of a cupboard, Liam was washing windows, Oscar was slinging brews at Nomad, Úna was partying it up at O-Week… but most importantly, we had the last Brewers Cup.

For the first time in nearly 10 years, the Brewers Cup is BACK. We’re proud to be sponsors of the competition, supplying BWT-filtered water across the two days. We’ll have a bunch of merch and goodies up for grabs, and you’ll catch Steve presenting during the Knowledge Lab sessions.

The Brewers Cup is next week, Friday 1 and Saturday 2 May at The Tuesday Club. To learn more about the comp, head to @nzspecialtycoffee.

When it comes to creating your dream Slayer, the options go beyond a simple colour choice.

This bespoke build features aged bronze electroplating, custom powder-coated panels, and components turned from blackened American oak — all made possible with the help of local makers and carefully brought to life by senior tech, Oscar.
