Mestizo / Mestiza pt 5 October marks Filipino American-History month. It’s celebrated during October because that is when Filipinos first landed in America in 1587. Larry Itliong was also born in October and he was one of the founding fathers of the farm workers movement on the west coast. Today we continue to have an impact in all fields all over the globe. Shout out to all my fam that I’ve met through working on this series! #mestizo #filipino #filipinoamericanhistorymonth by @macvaldee
January 2024 A set of #trix400 and #ilfordhp5 on my #leicam6. While traveling I didn’t miss shooting color film at all but I missed the hell out of shooting BW film. Ironically I hardly made any darkroom prints and that was the main reason why I missed shooting BW film. It’s been good to be back in #Frisco. I’m seeing the city in new ways that I hadn’t seen it before. Although some of these centered focused compositions might not prove that 🤷🏽‍♂️ . . . #leicalosers #leicacamerausa #madewithkodak #ilford #baeareafilm #filmwave #streethoney #aboxofgrain #streetizm #selfieonfilm by @macvaldee
Mestizo/Mestiza series pt. 4 Meeting people and hearing their stories has been heartwarming. It seems that we as Filipinos/Filipinas of mixed ancestry are all trying to understand who we are and where we land on the spectrum of our Filipinoness. Also, meeting some folks in NYC was amazing! Loved hearing an East Coast point of view. Thank you to everyone that has participated so far and allowed me to interview them and take their image. For anyone else that is looking to participate, please feel free to leave a comment below with where you’re located! I will eventually travel to meet you! #leicasofort #instaxmini #filipino #mestizo by @macvaldee

Filipino Mestizo pt. 3 I’ve learned a lot sitting down with my fellow mixed Filipinos and learning about their stories. There are so many nuances that I never really considered like which parent is the Filipino one or if you were first gen born in the US vs. 2nd gen that have an affect on your experience of being mixed. As this series expands it will be cool to learn more about people who grew up outside of the Bay and even outside the US/Philippines. If you are of mixed Filipino descent and would like to participate please comment below your mix and where you are located. Would love to make a portrait of you and hear your story. by @macvaldee
