FIT REC WELL Students — Save your receipts and bring them to class on Monday! Have a wonderful weekend.🍂 by @madisoncollegefitrecwell

Just keep swimming! 🐟

A little advice from Dory herself as we officially reach the halfway point of the semester!

We've made it halfway, everyone! Keep showing up, keep trying new things, keep learning, and most importantly, don't give up! Some days might feel like you're swimming against the current, but remember how far you've already come. Keep moving forward, even when things get challenging. You've got this!

Thank you to all of our students for showing up, stepping outside your comfort zones, supporting one another, and being part of this little FIT REC WELL community. You are what makes it so special!

And a HUGE thank you to Morgyn for joining us and bringing the FUN with a beat-based core workout! Morgan continues to be one of my favorite guest instructors because she always shows up with so much energy, enthusiasm, and an incredible demonstration of what group fitness can be.

One of my favorite parts of her visit actually happened before the workout even began. Morgyn shared a little bit about her own journey into fitness, reminding our students that there is no single path to becoming an instructor. Our journeys aren't always straight, simple, or perfect. Sometimes they twist, turn, and take us in directions we never expected. Along the way, we discover more about ourselves, what we enjoy, and where we belong.

Thank you, Morgyn, for sharing not only your knowledge and talents, but a little piece of your story with our future fitness professionals. We appreciate you so much!

Here's to the second half of the semester. Let's keep swimming! 💙 by @madisoncollegefitrecwell

We have fun! by @madisoncollegefitrecwell

Our students had the opportunity to experience different styles of beat-based group fitness instruction firsthand last Tuesday with Tanya and Kayla from Sun Prairie Athletic Club!

There's something special about learning directly from professionals who bring so much expertise and passion into the classroom.

And, a special shout out to Kayla, who will be graduating from our FIT REC WELL program this year! It's exciting to see one of our own sharing her skills, stepping into a leadership role, and inspiring future fitness professionals.

Thank you both for investing your time in the next generation of fitness and wellness professionals!☺️ by @madisoncollegefitrecwell

Today is World Mental Health Day.💚 Between classes, work, family, relationships, and everything else life throws our way, it's easy to put our own well-being on the back burner. And, for those of us studying or working in Fitness, Recreation, and Wellness, we spend so much time supporting others that we sometimes forget we deserve that same care and attention.

This year's World Mental Health Day theme, established by the World Health Organization, is "Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change." It's a reminder of the importance of listening to people who have experienced mental health challeneges, taking their perspectives seriously, and including their voices in shaping the support they receive.

Mental health isn't just about what you do when you're struggling. It's also about how you recognize your needs, communicate them, create room for yourself, and support the people around you.

Taking care of your mental health doesn’t always require BIG changes. Sometimes it's making time to rest, setting a boundary, reaching out for help, or simply bring there to listen.

So today, I encourage you to do TWO things:
1️⃣ Check in with yourself.
2️⃣ Check in with someone else.

Remember, you don't have to wait until things become overwhelming to ask for support. Madison College offers free, confidential counseling services, and 988 is available 24/7 for mental health and crisis support.

SAVE this post for when you need a reminder, and SHARE it with someone you care about.

Your mental health deserves attention, care, and support. Not just today. Every day. by @madisoncollegefitrecwell

This sign is outside the cafeteria at Madison College. A sign like this may be easy to pass on the way to lunch or class. But the conversation it represents deserves space.

Madison College students will soon be asked to complete the annual 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗧𝗶𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗜𝗫 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝘅𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗩𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲. The training is one part of the college’s work around prevention, awareness, creating safer learning environments, and helping members of our community understand how they can respond and support others.

Students should see the training on their Student Portal To-Do list and will be able to access it through Brightspace. It takes about 40 minutes and is due October 9. While completion is not mandated, students are strongly encouraged to participate.

I want to make sure this part doesn’t get lost: 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲. Madison College students can connect with a counselor through Navigate or by calling 608-246-6076. The RCC Sexual Violence Resource Center also provides confidential advocacy and support for survivors and their families. by @madisoncollegefitrecwell

The FIT REC WELL Program emphasizes experiential learning as a way to develop professional knowledge, self-awareness, communication, and problem-solving skills. The challenge course experience is designed to help build connections, step out of comfort zones, and develop skills that are essential in college and within the fitness, recreation, and wellness professions.

Thank you MSCR for giving us this opportunity to team build!

Six quotes from six students who participated:

1️⃣ "This taught me to never stop trying, use as many communication methods as possible, and trust my team."

2️⃣ "I can feel empathetic towards future clients that are intimidated by new experiences."

3️⃣ "I grew my social skills during the experience... I am now more open to learning about new people."

4️⃣ "As the activity progressed and we were working as a team, I was more comfortable directing people and speaking up."

5️⃣ "One takeaway from this experience is having it be a future goal to take more risks and try new activities."

6️⃣ "...perseverance and patience are essential when facing stressful situations. Rather than giving up when things become difficult, it is important to remain calm...and work together toward a solution." by @madisoncollegefitrecwell

Our students visited Orangetheory Fitness Sun Prairie for a group fitness field experience.

Students learned about the science behind Orangetheory training, experienced the workout firsthand, and connected course concepts like intensity monitoring, heart rate zones, energy systems, recovery, cueing, coaching, and class design to a real fitness setting.

A huge thank you to Coach Kohl for going above and beyond for our students, sharing what happens behind the scenes, and reminding us of the importance of coaching the person — not just the workout.

A huge thank you to Mel and Chelsea for also supporting our group — welcoming students, getting them set up with heart rate monitors, creating the brag board, communicating with students through email, and handling so many of the other behind-the-scenes details that made this experience run so smoothly.

Thank you, @otfsunprairie, for hosting us! We will be back! by @madisoncollegefitrecwell
