Bellos~ Our newest collection, Dinner with Dalí, is live! We know dinner around the table won’t “save” us. But maybe, in some small way, it actually will. Gather around the table with people you love. People who interest and inspire you. People who challenge you. Lean in. Listen a little more. Pour another glass of wine. Stay awhile. Lately, I’ve been reminiscing about a extraordinarily special trip I took to Spain with my daughter Pilar a number of years ago. Toward the end of our trip, we drove our tiny rental Fiat to Figueres to visit the Dalí Theatre-Museum—a many-floored capsule of his wildly imaginative world: paintings, sculptures, installations, entire rooms. It was beyond. From there, we hopped back into our little carrito and buzzed up and over the hills to Portlligat, to visit the home Dalí shared with Gala, tucked into a cove on the Mediterranean near where Spain kisses France. As you crest the bluff, one of the first things you see is an enormous egg that appears to be floating atop the sea. It’s an image I return to again and again in my mind. Breathtaking. Absurd. Completely surreal and symbolism that keeps unfolding and deepening for me all the time. Dalí is on the short list of famous people I would have loved to have dinner with—preferably in his semi-outdoor dining room, surrounded by his wild, avant-garde group of artists, thinkers, provocateurs, and beautiful oddballs. Can you imagine? This new collection brings stripes and checks galore. Pair them obviously. Pair them unexpectedly. Pair them irreverently. Get wild with your table dressings. Play with your food. Invite in a little surrealism. Because why the hell not? If we can’t laugh at the absurdity and make art in the midst of it, then, my Goddess, what on earth do we have? As the days grow darker, fill your tables with food and folks. Make things beautiful. Make them strange. Gather the people who make you think and laugh and linger a little longer. Set the table as though Dalí were coming to dinner. Salud, queridos. Un abrazo fuerte, MADRE / Shay 🥚❤️🍽️ by @madrelinen

what are we saving the good napkins for?! i understand wanting to keep something beautiful. but i have napkins at home that i’ve been using for 15 years, and there is so much beauty in that, too. the wrinkles, the stains, the evidence that we sat down and ate. again and again. we’re shown so much polished perfection. i don’t want us to miss the lovely, messy parts of being alive because we’re worried about leaving a mark. ❤️ let the stained ones become your everyday favorites. when they’re finally too raggedy for the table, let them join the rag pile. there is still work for them to do! every meal we get to sit down to is something to be grateful for. take the napkins out of the drawer. you don’t have to wait. x.shay #madrelinen #linennapkins #everydayrituals by @madrelinen
¡BIRTHDAY SALE! i love birthdays. i love my birthday. what a miraculous day we all experienced- the day we were “given light”! what a gift it is to be here now. as messy as it may seem, each day we are given to live and breathe and love is a blessing unto itself. and so today, as i celebrate my birthday, i invite you to shop our shop and enjoy 20% off our entire collection until midnight PDT. my little gift to you to thank you for being with me here, now. un besoto, MADRE/shay 🦂♥️👁️🎀🪽 by @madrelinen
what we grow to wear, what we grow to eat. it’s all connected. 🌱 one of the things i love so much about linen is that its story begins in a field. with a plant, the soil, and the people tending it. our fiber shed + our food shed share so much, and i think there is a lot to learn from looking at them together. working with a material that comes from the earth, that we can use and love for years, matters deeply to me. it’s a big part of why i keep coming back to linen, and why i’m so committed to it here at MADRE. i’ll be speaking on a panel about material resiliency for Portland Textile Month on october 26 at PSU! come join us. i would love to see you there and keep this conversation going. ❤️ x.shay *all details can be found via link in our bio. #madrelinen #portlandtextilemonth #flaxlinen by @madrelinen

“do you offer wholesale?” “yes, absolutely!” i had not, in fact, figured out wholesale 😂 then she handed me her card. Catherine Bailey. Heath Ceramics. HOLY MOLY!! i was very familiar with her “little ceramic brand.” that first order brought happy tears + a few overwhelmed ones. it was more napkins than i could possibly make on my own, and i needed help figuring out what came next. that help turned out to be right here in Portland. fifteen years later, we’re still working with the same manufacturing partner. ❤️ there are people behind every one of these napkins. people whose work supports mine, and whose work i get to support in return. i feel very lucky to have built something together that has lasted all these years. x.shay #madrelinen #madeinportland #linennapkins by @madrelinen
