🎼 Introducing… Maëlle Adanma Cardoso Ukaegbu is a multidisciplinary artist and choreographer from Switzerland, Portugal and Nigeria. She studied ballet, jazz, modern-jazz and contemporary at the Conservatoire Populaire of Musique, Danse et Théâtre of Geneva until the age of 18 where she choreographed multiple contemporary dance pieces that were later showcased at the Bâtiment des Forces Motrices, one of the biggest stages in Switzerland. Interested in merging various art forms together, she expands her practice by showcasing her art in the streets, stages and art galleries of London and broadening her mastery of different art forms in London while studying for a BA at the London Contemporary Dance School. Maëlle looks forward to this project which reunites various artists together.

George Perry Floyd Jr. killed 6 years ago today. Not dead, murdered.

I hope you are resting in peace wherever you are. Your memory will live as long as people remember you, which I do everyday, even if i do not know you personally. Your story resonates with me and I felt the need to honour you today. You were taken too soon and unfairly from your family, this world. You were supposed to be protected but instead was yet another victim of a system that keeps on failing people like you and me. I truly hope that your soul is resting peacefully. Many people don’t think about death for a long time once it happened, it happened and we move on. But I do, which led me to think of you today. Peace to you and your family as well. 6 years went like a blur and I still feel like I’m there, but it’s not about me.

RIP George and sweet sweet rest.

exulansis for every conversations somehow. It’s really difficult to speak to people especially in those times. Why do we overcomplicate everything. Why does everything needs to be commemorated, remembered, filmed? Art was never supposed to last in the first place. It was supposed to leave a lasting impact and a definite image in the mind, something to influence us for the rest of our lives without needing it to be saved in a tiny rectangular device.
Why do we seek newness at every corner? Why can’t we appreciate simply being, being in the moment? Why do we need ambition(s) for? For what? A better salary? A better life? When has life become a reward and not a gift? When did freedom of existing become something that we need to earn?

Just some thoughts. Anyways, cheers!

Okayyy this is just a rant but it needs OUT and what better format than writing it?

Since I came to the UK so many things opened my eyes and made me realise how much secure I was back in Switzerland and how blind I was to many things. For example, I have never felt black before. For me the concept of race is a societal construct that I do not believe in. I believe in souls which obviously can not be seen with our eyes (I recommend watching ItalisVital interview on how race is a program. « Don’t you know that belief is a doubt? » « you cannot believe something and know it »)

Anyways, the moment I came to the UK, I had white women clutch their pearls at me in the streets just by simply walking by them and people whether « black », « white » or whatever judging me based on my race which apparently is a part of my identity. If im not black enough I can’t stay with certain people but if I am too black stereotypically talking than that’s also a problem. Anyways I’ve never been conscious of that back then. I was just me. And I honestly am really sad for people who had to live like that since birth. Having to consciously think ahead on how to act.

That’s one thing. The second thing I HATE and have been more conscious about since coming to this country is how much people glaze white men for the barest bare minimum. Especially in that damn school. They’re immediately put on a pedestal just for breathing. « But they say smart stuff » « They’re funny » « He’s a good leader ». NO HE’S NOT? People be laughing at a noise he made just because it’s him. A mere noise and they be laughing like it’s a quality joke.

You’re under spell people!!!

Not just that, he gets to set the rules (along other people) who we hate, who we like, who we respect, who gets to stay around, who’s relevant enough, who’s ostracised and talked behind their back, who is good enough to talk without getting interrupted or mocked, who has the right to oppose themselves to their rules because they’re cool enough.

Those hierarchies have got to stop. No one is above anyone. Just because he’s white and privileged enough doesn’t mean he’s the best buddy for you. I’m sick and tired.

this month, I awakened.

A new version of me has flourished, I thank shadow work. The awakening grew calmer. I’m still far from breaking some cycles but I progress each day a little more. I want to start writing again, maybe publish a book. Finish my music and create create create and dance dance dance. My own pieces. Caught in an endless cycle of creation and research of self, inwards, outwards. How much awareness will I gain? Awareness becomes when we are aware it is. Anyways I’m rambling thoughts.
