myEgo (2026)

Excited to finally share my graduation work from MA Media Art Design and Technology!

myEgo, investigate the gap between how I experience myself from the inside and how I appear as an image. The project grew out of my relationship to Krump, a dance where emotion is raw and immediate. But when recorded, that lived experience shifts. What I call “digital fading”: the repeated viewing of a video starts to overwrite the actual memory of how the moment felt.
To fight this fading, I turned the digital self back into something physical and uncanny. Here in the video I wear a paper mask printed with my own face, and I consume it.
By eating the mask, the image becomes material, it tears, dissolves, and must be swallowed. There is no “true self” revealed underneath; instead, identity is staged as a constant struggle against the pressure of the gaze.

In the space, the work hangs on tension straps, leaning forward toward the viewer. Combined with amplified sound and framing, the video forces the viewer to feel rather than just passively watch.

Got inspired last weekend, went to the petting zoo in het Griftpark where they had little lambs (forgot to take pictures)
