The final lesson of @themintgardener’s Joyful Watercolor Sketchbook Series is now open, and includes a full BONUS lesson!

In Lesson 4, you’ll choose one favorite image from your studies and bring it to life as a finished piece. Learn how simplifying your reference through cropping and converting to black and white helps you understand composition, values, and light before painting. Using your watercolor palette from earlier lessons, you’ll build your painting thoughtfully from light to dark while focusing on observation and intentional choices.

Then in a BONUS lesson, you’ll follow along with Sarah to finish your sketchbook pages.

• Papier aquarelle Canson Coton d’Art - @cansonpaper

At the end of my trip to Italy, I spent a few days on my own in Venice. I just wanted to wander aimlessly through the city and unpack my painting kit wherever the mood took me.

I’d brought the ‘Venezia’ paint set by Maimeri Blu with me.
Naturally, the first thing I had to do was see what colours I could mix with it.

This year I’ve discovered a new colour for myself:

Payne’s Grey by MaimeriBlu® Unlike most other shades of Payne’s Grey, it isn’t a mixture of different pigments, usually including a black pigment.

This shade consists of just one pigment: a synthetic indigo.
I like this dark blue, used here in the sky and in the water. And, of course, I’ve brought it with me on my trip through Italy.

Yesterday morning I had to work quickly, as a massive thunderstorm was brewing. It turned out well for me, but others were unfortunately less fortunate.
