Introducing- Jonathan Tignor (b. 1997) is a painter originally from Dallas, Texas. He graduated from the Royal College of Art in London with an MA in Painting (2024). Tignor has shown with OHSH Projects, Chilli Arts, and Twilight Contemporary in London, as well as with Bonian Space in Beijing, Pigment Gallery in Barcelona, and IRL Gallery and CABIN in New York. Jonathan Tignor understands painting as a form of thinking that occurs through the material. His rendering of an image or a series of images acts as a method for asking questions about the relationship between seeing and cultural memory. His process attempts to balance restraint with looseness, and the resulting mark-making is often invested in moments of unexpected encounter and formal tension, heightened by the resistance that occurs between paint and surface. Tignor’s questioning then prioritizes a synthesis of form and content; he‘s interested in the self-reflexive potential of painting, and by extension the role visual narrative can play in realizing that potential. photo credits to Aidan Matthews @jtig.art On View “Tree Eaters” makaleidos.co by @makaleidos_

UPCOMING EXHIBITION | ISSUE #7 Tree Eaters Jonathan Tignor @jtig.art October 25 – December 31, 2026 MaKaleidos is delighted to announce Tree Eaters, an upcoming online exhibition featuring a new body of paintings by American artist Jonathan Tignor. Created largely during a summer residency near the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York, these intimate paintings draw on imagery of logging, forests, and the natural world. Drawing on ideas from American Transcendentalism, Tignor explores the contrast between consumption and contemplation, considering how painting might transform images of consumption into subjects of contemplation. Working on a modest scale, his paintings invite a closer, slower kind of looking, allowing familiar imagery to take on an unexpected sense of mystery. We look forward to sharing this new body of work with you. Opening online October 25, 2026 www.makaleidos.co #MaKaleidos #JonathanTignor #emergingartist #ContemporaryPainting by @makaleidos_
“That said, I think there’s a certain feeling that runs constantly through my work. For instance, the paintings I’m showing here are all, to varying degrees, inspired by the music of João Gilberto, whom I’ve listened to extensively over the past few years — especially during summers in the studio. Somehow his music found its way into the work. But it wasn’t a conscious decision; it just happened. And I wouldn’t call it a dominant influence — it’s more like one component of an atmosphere I like to immerse myself in.” Lukas Ruster If u also want to listen to João Gilberto while experiencing Lukas’s works ➡️ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fa8veDOssuA few more days to see Lukas Ruster’s online project via makaleidos.co For inquiries please contact info@makaleidos.co by @makaleidos_

Delighted to present ‘In My Room’ — a solo exhibition by Karlsruhe-based painter Lukas Ruster. Working primarily in oil, Ruster’s paintings gather around a certain atmosphere: the record playing in the studio, the book on the table, the friend who just stopped by. His recent works are touched by the music of João Gilberto, and by a shift toward painting from life — where the subject is no longer on a screen, but actually sitting there. “Painting is an actual thing,” he says. “Support, pigments, binder.” Now on view ✨ makaleidos.co by @makaleidos_

Pehuén Oil on cotton paper 24 x 19 cm 2025 - 2026 “By chance, I found these old handmade cotton papers in Paris, similar to khadi paper. They remained on my shelf for more than a year before I began using them simply as surfaces on which to wipe the excess paint from my brushes or the residue left on my palette after a day’s work. Then I realised how beautifully the paper absorbed and bled from one side to the other. Folded within a sketchbook, the paper carries a horizontal mark of time. I realised that this folding resonated with my compositions. I often work by dividing the painting into two halves: the upper half becomes the background, and the lower half a table for my objects. Vertical and horizontal.” View the full interview with @sebaespejov via makaleidos.co by @makaleidos_
“The famous quote by Giorgio Morandi — ‘Nothing can be more abstract than reality’ — illuminated different aspects of perception, attention, and the practice of painting. I immediately think of the Lacanian Real: the ineffable dimension of our experience that exists beyond words.” View the full interview with Sebastián Espejo via 👉makaleidos.co Still life and Seascape Oil and marble dust on cotton paper 24 x 19 cm 2025 - 2026 @sebaespejov For inquiries please contact info@makaleidos.co by @makaleidos_
Introducing ✨ Sebastián Espejo（b. 1990, Viña del Mar, Chile) currently lives and works in London. Espejo’s work centres on the transience and beauty of everyday life, with the narrative of his works following everyday environments, intentionally lacking any single event. This translation of environmental experience into painting connects his work to the Chilean pictorial tradition of ‘descriptive realism,’ defined by its direct sensory capture of transient moments. Espejo sees himself as an inheritor of this tradition and its artistic philosophy. Selected Exhibitions: 2026 “Bright Moon“, Sun Gallery, Seoul “The Other Summer“, Union Pacific, London “Lustre: Sebastian Espejo & Pierre Bonnard“, Interval Gallery, London 2025 “What is less or more than a touch” Des Bains Gallery, London, UK. “Shorelines” Draper & Co.
