In the spring semester, I received a scholarship to attend a workshop at Anderson Ranch Arts Center, which I had only heard of a few months prior! I had no idea what to expect, aside from that the food was going to be great (it was) and that it would be an invaluable experience (again, it was). This June I attended the ranch for two weeks, studying with Namdoo Kim in his workshop Storytelling in Clay: Shaping Imagination. I learned so much just by working in the same room with artists of different backgrounds and experiences. It was an honor to work with so many talented, funny, and kind humans. Thank you all for such a lovely experience—one I will not soon forget! @andersonranchartscenter #andersonranchartscenter by @mal.apodaca.art

A jar to hold rice! Stoneware and glaze. 10” tall and holds roughly two bags of long grain rice (aka exactly 40oz). Thanks to Anna for introducing me to this gorgeous yellow glaze! #ceramics #pottery #craft by @mal.apodaca.art
“Mother may I?” Stoneware, oxide washes, glaze. April 2026 The scale is it fits in my arms like a lengthy baby. Gosh this one is hard to photograph! Perhaps it would be easier if I used a camera that wasn’t my iPhone 12. Anyway, I learned and had fun while building this piece! #ceramics #sculpture #ceramicartist by @mal.apodaca.art
Some recent portrait studies drawn in Procreate + the first portrait I ever kept (from a 2021 journal). This semester, I’ve drawn at least one portrait each week. It’s turned into a wonderful study where I’m playing with color, value, layering, and various emotional states (: What a relief it is to learn and to create! - #art #portrait #procreate by @mal.apodaca.art
“Am I you?” Stoneware, underglaze, oxide washes. November 2025 - #sculpture #portrait #clay by @mal.apodaca.art
“Hey! Mister?” Stoneware, glaze, gifted “happy move-in day” flowers. March 2026 Mister (?) lost Missus (!) to a diamond sander… guess it wasn’t meant to be 😅 by @mal.apodaca.art
