Malcolm Braff, Petter Eldh and Lukas König‘s new trio album «Outside» brings together three of Europe’s most adventurous improvisers on Unit Recordsˋ Troxlerart Edition. Available from today on as limited 12 inch 45 rpm Vinyl, Compact Disc or via the streaming service of your choice. Malcolm Braff – upright piano Petter Eldh – double bass Lukas König – drums Recording Engineer: Martin Ruch & Noé Franklé Mixing & Mastering Engineer: Martin Ruch Artwork: Nikolaus Troxler Graphic Design: Severin Koller For many years, Malcolm Braff has pursued a deeply personal exploration of rhythm, developing an original approach to musical time through research, performance, and relentless experimentation. Yet such a solitary journey comes with a paradox: the deeper one ventures into the complexities of rhythm, the more difficult it becomes to share that experience with others. In Swedish bassist Petter Eldh and Austrian drummer Lukas Koenig, Braff found two musicians whose rhythmic imagination, technical mastery, and openness to exploration resonate on the same frequency. Rather than simply showcasing individual virtuosity, the three musicians approach rhythm as a shared language. Complex metric ideas unfold naturally, while groove, openness and spontaneity remain central. What emerges is far more than a collaboration between three exceptional improvisers: it is an ongoing conversation about time itself. Bänz Oester «TOGETHER with Albin Ormegard, Malcolm Braff & Genius Wesley» is finally here! Do yourself a favor and listen to this stunning album! After 13 years with the Rainmakers, Bänz Oester turns a new page. Joining him are his long-time companion Malcolm Braff on piano and two high-flyers from the Jazzcampus Basel scene, Albin Ormegard from Sweden on guitar and American Genius Wesley on drums. TOGETHER carries the torch of spiritual jazz, a lineage reaching back to John Coltrane’s quartet and the golden era of the mid-60s to mid-70s. This music feels strikingly relevant now and unfolds through expansive, freely improvised arcs. It grooves, it sings, it luxuriates, and just around the corner, another surprise is already waiting. This isn’t music about speed, precision and control. It’s about freedom, transcendence and humanity. At a time when algorithms and machines grow ever more powerful, the four musicians offer exactly what we need most: Not blind superstition, but a force that reconnects us and gives us a sense of human belonging, of brotherhood and sisterhood. TOGETHER makes everything bloom.
