South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has congratulated Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his re-election for a fourth non-consecutive term.

Ramaphosa described Lula as his ''dear brother and friend'', and said the win is ''a victory for the global south and progressive forces throughout the world.''

Both South Africa and Brazil are members of the BRICS bloc of world emerging economies seeking to counterbalance Western dominance in global affairs.

''We affirm our commitment to continue strengthening bilateral relations between our two countries and working closely together in all multilateral fora to forge a just and better world order underpinned by solidarity and adherence to international law,'' Ramaphosa said in a post on social media on Monday, a day after Lula was declared winner of the presidential election. by @margotramalhete

I congratulate my friend, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil, on his re-election for a record fourth term @lulaoficial

Your renewed mandate offers an opportunity to strengthen the longstanding friendship and historical ties between Nigeria and Brazil.

As two leading nations of the Global South, we can promote economic integration and advance our shared interests in a rapidly changing global order.

I look forward to expanding cooperation in trade and investment, agriculture and food security, energy, oil and gas, manufacturing, science and technology, education, aviation, and cultural exchange.

I affirm Nigeria’s continued commitment to working with Brazil to strengthen multilateral cooperation and advance shared priorities in Africa, South America, and across the Global South.

On behalf of the people of Nigeria, I wish you a successful new term in office.

Siga o ExpedienteBR. by @margotramalhete
