INTRODUCING THE BAND | SECRET BALLOT So, we are far from being done. As Frantz Fanon once wrote, “Each generation must have its own gwijo, out of relative boredom, discover its use in the revolution, sing it or leave it to others who can to do so.” Now, a political conference would hardly be complete without its artistic items, providing the soundtrack, the distractions and the occasional obscuring background noise to accompany the political ruminations of the brotherhood. Introducing the band of Secret Ballot: Anathi “Ithana” Conjwa, Billy Langa, Lebogang Mokhela, Katlego Mollo & Siyabonga Nzolo Prepare your voices because we will be singing songs that YOU can sing along to, the people must get what they want. 2 & 3 NOVEMBER 2026 | 7PM Market Theatre Laboratory, Newtown, Johannesburg. SECRET BALLOT RETURNS TO THE STAGE FOR ONLY TWO PERFORMANCES! Secret Ballot returns to the stage for two performances at the Market Theatre Laboratory, Newtown, Johannesburg, on 2 and 3 November 2026 at 7PM Presented by Theatreduo & Co, this political satire and farce is a prequel to J Bobs Tshabalala’s award-winning play Khongolose Khommanding Khommissars, which Theatreduo directed as its Standard Bank Young Artist Award for Theatre production. The play went on to earn Tshabalala the Naledi Theatre Award for Best New South African Script. This new staging features a cast of 14 performers and introduces brand-new monologues alongside material from the original work. Through humour, spectacle and political absurdity, Secret Ballot examines the contradictions of political power and the performance of public identities. As South Africans approach another electoral moment, the production invites audiences to revisit Tshabalala’s political world and reflect on the performances, questions and power struggles that shape democratic life. DATES: 2 & 3 November 2026 TIME: 7PM VENUE: Market Theatre Laboratory, Newtown, Johannesburg Artwork & Poster Design by Slovo Mamphaga voting is free but for the show tickets are sold on Webtickets and the link can be found in our bio by @marketlaboratory
