POSTS STORIES REELS

I am immensely proud of my father, David Fine, and his world-class accomplishments in the record industry. Specifically, his stellar years leading PolyGram Records in the late 80s-early 90s. A recent visit to the PolyGram listing on Wikipedia distressed me. My father's pivotal role had been eviscerated, skipping from Jan Timmer to Alain Levy.

I intend to correct the record. Here is an example of what David Fine accomplished for PolyGram in a single year -- 1989.

1989 marked a transformative year for PolyGram N.V. Under the leadership of President and CEO David G. Fine, PolyGram focused on bolstering its global market presence, enhancing its roster of rock, pop, and alternative artists, and growing its music publishing and film divisions.

Island Records Acquisition
• Date and Price: Announced in late July 1989 (formalized in August), for approximately $300 million.

A&M Records Acquisition
• Date and Price: Announced October 11, 1989, for about $500 million in cash.

Music Publishing Expansions
On top of acquiring DJM Records (Dick James Music) and the Elton Johan catalog, he added Sweden Music, Polar Music, Island Group Publishing, and Welk Music Group.

Film Division
Working Title Films famous for "Four Weddings and Funeral."

These acquisitions helped my father to set the stage for PolyGram's December 1989 initial public offering (IPO) on the New York Stock Exchange, the first 'pure-play' record company listed at that time.

These 1989 acquisitions catapulted PolyGram from a $400 million-valued Philips subsidiary to the world's top record company by market cap ($4 billion by 1990).

It is fair to say that my father's tenure was consequential, and that his achievements merit being acknowledged in Wikipedia.
However, I don't have a clue how to change it? by @markfinewriter

☀️ Rhonda came for the music. Forbidden songs under apartheid, and the question of whose voices get silenced.

☀️ She stayed for the fatherhood — a man helping his sons through their mother's death, where the memoir finds its most personal stakes.

Here's her 18-second 5-star review on "The Silencing & The Devotion."

📚 If you've read my memoir, leaving a 60-second honest review is how my book finds its next readers. Your opinion is valuable.
