✊🏻 1971 VW Beetle 1302s restoration
POSTS STORIES REELS
This little tinker came home today, 1971,1302s VW Beetle. Such a happy face when she rolled out of the garage she was hiding in for a number of years. Thank you to the previous owners, now it’s time to get her gleaming again. #getmytools #vwbeetlelovers #vwbeetle by @marks_vw_beetle
Phew. Taking a minute to think how I managed to get this rear end ‘done’. No experience but a bit of gumption gets you a long way. Whats next? Big stuff. Got the floors to sort out, heat channels, A-pillars. Might get side tracked and do other things tho. #vwbeetle #classiccars #vwbug #aircooledvw by @marks_vw_beetle
Mud-week update. Finished welding in the rear luggage area. Filled, sanded, seam sealed, basically used every product I had in the garage. Always give the latest bit I’ve done a coat of mismatched red, it’s not the right way, but it’s my way. And it makes me feel better. Big hugs. #vwbeetle #vwrestoration #project #vwbug by @marks_vw_beetle
A side question took me to the front spare wheel well. Cleared the rust, stuck some primer in the worst of it. Got sone rusty bolts off the anti roll bar, that was fun. Oh and welded that luggage area in place. All good. 👍🏻 #smallstepsbigresults #vwbeetle #classiccars #project #vwbug by @marks_vw_beetle
Ok let’s look at the front end. Front apron : rotten Side corner inner wing : rotten Underside : rotten Give up : #never #vwrestoration #classiccars #vwbug #garage by @marks_vw_beetle
Original 1302 front wing headlight bowl was eaten alive by rust, but thought it better TK save it, replace the bowl, etc, rather than buy a nasty cheap repo. New headlight bowl from @driveheritage Lots of nice #patina on the original wing, what a life it’s had. #onward #vwbeetle #classiccars #project by @marks_vw_beetle
Started to look at windscreen corner rust mess. Chopped a bit out, looked at repair panel, looked at new hole I created and walked away. 🤣🤣 Will weld it up some time soon. Then floors, then heater Chanel’s. Yay. #vwbeetle #vwrestoration #classiccars #project #volkswagon by @marks_vw_beetle
Yes it’s a 1302! Reinstated the badge even tho I welded up the holes 🤣 And yes the red of the deck lid is slightly more tomato red than the nose. Details details…. #details #vwbeetle #vwrestoration #project #diy by @marks_vw_beetle
Luggage area. Still. So added a few side flaps to weld into car. Decided to sand down as will not be carpeted for the back side, silly idea, but I think about it being glossy red, with those pressed metal lines, ooh that’s nice. ☺️ Just means I have a bit of #work to do. @driven60vwchris I feel you bro, that glue does not come off! #onwardsandupwards #vwbeetle #volkswagon #aircooledvw by @marks_vw_beetle
Still working on fitting the rear luggage area. Adding some edges to weld it to the rear arches, tapping that frame bolt, sanded the rear engine bay smooth, and primed that… oh and a ‘new’ rear badge. Although I welded up the holes but I think I may reinstate. #decisions #vwbeetle #classiccars #project #garage by @marks_vw_beetle
Not much going on this week, spent a while cleaning up the bottom of the luggage area, it’s black with Hammerite Kurust at mo. Then had to weld a U channel onto rear shelf so the new luggage piece can drop into it. Spent some time thinking about that. #vwbeetle #vwrestoration #project #diy #instagram by @marks_vw_beetle
YES! We now have @that68beetle bugs rear luggage area grafted into my rust box! Ok so yes I’ve got loads of welding to do .. and yes jumped the gun a little putting the rear seat in.. and yes I might have sat in there and pretended I was being driven by my dad about 50years ago when he had a little blue beetle etc etc.. But that’s what this is all about. Dreaming. Dreaming we can do something that’s way out of our comfort zone. #vwrestoration #classiccars #project #vwbug #garage by @marks_vw_beetle
