Birthday Blessings and Mahalo for being a part of my life. Last year I was on the slopes of Haleakala with brother Ke’oni and my birthday fern was Oalii- fern of fertility- and what a year it’s been. I must go and be with brother for this new year. As I look back before looking forward- I want to thank this entire community for being there for me during the challenges and triumphs of one of the hardest self birthing years ever. Your love and aloha, kindness and support is what pulled me through and I am forever grateful, humbled and thankful for each soul that showed up - seen and unseen- I felt your prayers and cheers from all corners of the earth. Thank you for this precious life, thank you to my incredible parents (look mom and dad I finally got my PhD like both of you!) thank you to my children, my brother and his family, my friends and community and thank you to my teachers, advisors, mentors, colleagues, and to this beautiful Earth. I am so full of gratitude- my cup is spilling over. Thank you for the smiles, hugs, words of encouragement, showing up, reaching out, cheering me on, supporting my research and work and for being incredible humans. Mahalo, Mahalo, Mahalo 🙏♥️🙏♥️🙏♥️🙏♥️🙏♥️ dr.marni 😉 Every year I recite my Bodhisattva vow that I took in 2001. May I be a guard for those who need protection A guide for those on the path A boat, a raft, a bridge for those who wish to cross the flood May I be a lamp in the darkness A resting place for the weary A healing medicine for all who are sick A vase of plenty, a tree of miracles And for the boundless multitudes of living beings May I bring sustenance and awakening Enduring like the earth and sky Until all beings are freed from sorrow And all are awakened. - Dalai Lama regularly recites bodhisattva vows based on the words of the beloved sixth-century sage Shantideva some 📸 by @sacredsons and @vanessacindyphoto Music 🎶 by @mikelovemusic by @marnisuureynoldsphd
What Happens When Men Try to Heal in Front of Women? Let us take a look at the doctoral research conducted over the last 3yrs with @sacredsons at @remembrancegathering. Read the full article for free on my Substack (link in bio). https://open.substack.com/pub/marnisuureynolds/p/what-happens-when-men-try-to-heal?r=tk2rs&utm_medium=ios Remembrance is a community gathering, held in Brinnon, Washington in August (tickets in my bio link). This article and observation offers a glimpse into what relational repair between men and women might actually look like — and how hard it is to get right. * The Problem We Already Know About * Two Bodies in the Same Room * What Women’s Presence Actually Did * What Women Were Actually Watching For * The Accountability Problem * Why This Matters Beyond Retreats * Based on research conducted at Sacred Sons’ 2024, 2025 Remembrance gathering in Washington State, drawing on ten qualitative interviews and participant observation. “Eō!” (I’m here) Collective Healing is the fabric of our future societal reality. It will take effort To keep showing up. My prayer 🙏 Keep the fire going 🔥 WE are all indigenous to this earth. We all belong - every single one of us. Keep the fire going 🔥 We all need to feel seen, appreciated, celebrated and respected with Aloha. Keep the fire going 🔥 Lean In- it’s hot but alchemy is your solution Keep showing up Community is your Immunity Keep the Fire going 🔥 Hold this sacred prayer of aloha and community in reverence. Our world depends on it. However community is presenting itself in your world, align with it and lean in. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ IMUA! (Forward) “In Hawaiian knowledge, healing is inseparable from relationship to land (ʻāina), ancestry, and spirit. Practices such as ho‘oponopono restore balance within families, but they also remind us that each person carries a responsibility (kuleana) especially from those who hold recognized kuleana within the ʻohana and lineage, to the land and to generations to come. Ceremony, chant, and protocol guide these processes so that healing is conducted with humility, physical, mental and spiritual alignment. True reconciliation is not only between people; it is between people, land, ancestors (who are in front of us), and the living world that sustains us.” Kumu Anna Lisa Kalauokekupukupu Espiritu Abuan McKeon @kumuperpetuatehula Women’s Leader Sacred Sons @sacredsons Photos taken at @remembrancegathering by @vanessacindyphoto #sacredsons #healing #community #mentalhealth by @marnisuureynoldsphd
To everything there is a season. How are we all doing with our self-love and compassion practice? Here are some reminders: “You alone are enough. You have nothing to prove to anybody.” - Maya Angelou “If your compassion does not include yourself, it is incomplete.” - Jack Kornfield @jack_kornfield “You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.” — Buddha “To love oneself is the beginning of a lifelong romance.” — Oscar Wilde “It’s not your job to like me, it’s mine.” — Byron Katie Here are some journal prompts: 1. What is an internal win that no one else saw? 2. How can you be kinder to yourself today? 3. How can you show yourself more compassion and kindness? 4. What are you proud of yourself for? 5.What are five things you appreciate about yourself? Love you all ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Mahalo to sister @intergalacticsunshine who always captures my soul. It’s Full Moon- Let’s Dance CREATIVE HEALTH The use of arts and culture to improve wellbeing, support recovery, strengthen social connection, and reduce health inequalities in communities and healthcare settings. Mahalo to all the dance and cultural practitioners who keep these traditions alive. @kumuperpetuatehula @kale.kaalekahi Dance does more than move the body. It can strengthen. health, connection and joy. Research links dance with better balance, mobility, cardiovascular fitness, mood and social connection. Structured programmes can also support psychological and cognitive health, with benefits comparable to other forms of exercise. What makes dance distinctive is its combination of movement, music, memory, creativity and connection. That makes it a creative health activity, not simply entertainment. It can support prevention, recovery and healthy ageing alongside clinical care while bringing people together. Dance your way through life. Get up and move your beautiful body- I’ll see you on the dance floor! Lighting the Torch for the Women Warriors in the Descent of the Feminine. The First Gate—The Spiral of the Feminine—Rising or Descending? Are we experiencing the rise of the feminine, or are we still living within her descent? My honest answer: not yet, and not in a straight line. After working in trauma in war zone and refugee camps, I believe we won’t rise by not looking at the state of the world. Part of the women’s work is meeting the feminine shadow: the comparison, the performed strength, the exhaustion we hide- especially from each other. The myth of Inanna reminds me that rescue begins with presence. Someone willing to stay and witness. Where does the shadow show up for you, and which woman warrior taught you how to begin again? 🔥 Mahalo to all the women warriors who have led the way, most importantly my maternal line and my Mother, my teachers, mentors, colleagues and friends - who continously show me how to keep showing up again and again and again. To the young woman warriors, keep showing up, show us your fire, your saced rage, your aloha. I am not waiting for the rising. I am lighting the torch. I am walking through the gates. It’s an honor to be here with all of you. Let us continue to rise.... Marni STAY TUNED for a new offering in 2027. More to come bookmark 🔥 p.s. Happy Birthday to @han__lei and thank you to all the women I’ve gotten to know through @sacredsons at @remembrancegathering over the last 4years. I adore each and everyone of you. A Hunger the Industry Can’t Yet Hold The global wellness economy was valued at roughly $6.8 trillion in 2024, larger than the global green economy and now equivalent to about 60% of total global health expenditure. Wellness tourism alone—retreats, ceremonial travel, and destination healing programs—was valued at nearly $990 billion in 2025 and is projected to more than double by 2035. Within that, the retreat industry specifically is growing even faster than the broader wellness economy, and industry data identifies mental health and nervous-system regulation retreats as one of the fastest-growing categories, driven directly by the mainstreaming of trauma-informed approaches and somatic healing—exactly the kind of work this training addresses. Spiritual wellness apps, personal-development coaching, breathwork trainings, and ceremonial retreat offerings are all expanding alongside it, each drawing more people into rooms led by facilitators with wildly varying levels of training, oversight, and accountability. Trainings like @sacredsons Community Relational Training is leading the way- learn more at www.sacredsons.com Read the full article on my Substack for free- link in bio. It’s all about the children. In all children, I see my own children. For me, 4yrs ago when the war broke out in Myanmar (my mother’s home country) I had to go and support by developing trauma and wellness programs in refugee communities in Thailand. Over 4.5 million people have been displaced due to the coup in 2021. Children with little food, water, shelter, medicine or education. I am very proud to be involved with a great organization @beamedufoundation who is providing education and mental health services for these Myanmar displaced communities. It is NOT easy work. With the dismantling of USAID in 2025- we lost all of our funding for programming. BEAM still continues regardless- they are beyond resilient. @beamedufoundation believes that migrant youth have the potential to be a part of the larger community development of Thailand, Myanmar, and the ASEAN nations, but they are marginalized due to the difficulties in attaining access to higher education. Support their work by sharing our story and donating to our Resilience Fund. Follow them on IG @beamedufoundation Let’s create more opportunities for Myanmar’s youth and future generational leaders. Thank you for your care and support- I know all of you are doing what you can in your own communities. #migranteducation #beameducationfoundation #migranteducationprogram #myanmar by @marnisuureynoldsphd
The most magnetic thing a woman can be is completely at home in her own depths. With all of the magnetic energy in the cosmos, my dreams have been unbelievable- anyone else have deep activations? There is an ancient, unyielding power in choosing to flow rather than force—to be soft as a ripple, yet vast as the ocean. No explanations. No apologies. Just a quiet, sovereign peace that knows exactly we know who we are. Beautiful WOMXN Thank heavens for the gift, the mystery, and the beautiful allure of being a woman. Celebrating all the women in every corner of the earth and those who have paved the way for us all to be here.
