Late in the second half and holding a narrow lead, Austria sought to secure a score to put the game beyond reach of Team GB.

Marta Mathews had other plans - on a day filled with heroic efforts across the team, the Sheffield Giant delivered a hat trick of clutch plays on both sides of the ball as GB would go on to win 34-33 in an all time classic final, becoming back-to-back European Champions.

Hey!

Quick life update. A few months ago i was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, the most treatable kind. Thankfully it was caught early and i was given the option of having half of my thyroid out. The results came back and I was advised to have the other half taken out as a precaution. Therefore needing a second surgery that will take place in the next 3-4 weeks.

I decided to make this post to let everyone know I am recovering well from my first surgery and to also tell my story to help anyone else going through a similar thing.

In September of this year a lump was found on my neck. The doctors didn’t think much of it and the first ultrasound came back clear. This wasn’t the answer we were looking for. We then got a second one that came back inconclusive which led to a biopsy with a cancer diagnosis. This process would have taken 9 months to a year from finding the lump if I hadn’t told a few fibs and made the doctors think it was an emergency (unknowingly)! But thankfully after many calls it got pushed through, and we took advantage of the private health care system to speed it up. Moral of the story, if there is anything going on with your body, even if you feel fine, get it checked out and make sure there is a logical reason to explain it. You never know what it could be.

These pics are me post initial surgery in full recovery mode ready to smash it in 2023. And next to me are two of the most important people in my life. @jade supporting me along the way being the best partner anyone could ask for. And mum, living next door, worrying to no end, and coaching me through my recovery and rehab process day in day out to get me back to 100% ❤️

The process was tough, possibly one of the toughest things i have been through. I went from buzzing to struggling to walk down stairs. But as each day passed, i made sure it was better than the last. And worked on what i could to get my body and mind back stronger and healthier. With that experience i am now more prepared for the next surgery. We all new it was a possibility and unfortunately the possibility became the best option to make sure the cancer didn’t spread to the rest of my body in future years. by @tartantouchdown

Wearing the Great Britain jersey is an incredible honour.

But what most people don’t see is everything that comes before it.

The constant pressure to earn your place. The training between camps. The sacrifices. The uncertainty. Competing alongside teammates who are also competing for the same jersey.

It’s challenging, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
