Legoland! Thought I'd share #behindthescenes for one of the last pieces I shot on my stage in Brooklyn before I shifted my life to Tokyo. This was a fun one that I also got to bring in the talented @vixtoria for much of the animation. Everything else was me. Producing, Moco, lighting, post. #stopmotion #animation #brooklyn #nyc #newyork #brickanimation #legoanimation #lego #moco #camera #photography #lighting #art #blindguytravels #radiotopia by @mathew_amonson
Here's a sleek piece I had the chance to work on with @breakfaststudio It was exciting to plan, expand the team/equipment and see this come to life, component by component Breakfast Studio "Introducing *Boston Wind* — a kinetic installation that connects the viewer to the natural world through technology. By harnessing real-time wind data, it translates atmospheric patterns into motion, creating an interactive experience that responds as you raise your hand, evoking the feeling of wind itself. This piece invites exploration of the harmony between nature and innovation. Located in the lobby of Crispr Therapeutics in Boston, MA." #KineticArt #InteractiveArt #PublicArt #BostonWind #MuseumExhibit #art #design #kinetic #robotics #motioncontrol #moco #sculpture #kineticsculpture by @mathew_amonson

One of the coolest projects that came to life while working with @breakfaststudio last year. #thepearl was a pretty amazing feat made possible by the many talented engineers, technicians and wonderful studio manager. They were a pleasure to work through all the challenges with for every project, large or small #kinetiart #kineticsculpture #roboticart #robotics #motioncontrol #sculpture #art #design #contemporaryart by @mathew_amonson
The latest permanent artwork from last year that I led the production of with @breakfaststudio. And its a big one for the flip disc pieces. “Abstraction, Neuse River,”was recently installed at the entrance of the new 400H building in Raleigh, NC. The abstract shapes within the piece are generated by people interacting with it. The more you move and the longer you engage with it, the more intricate the shape becomes, and the longer it takes to evolve. This creates a call-and-response dynamic between you and the artwork, allowing you to collaboratively create a unique piece. The print on the artwork was crafted by exploring various images of the Neuse River in North Carolina, aiming to capture a subtle, abstract depiction of the river at dusk. Soon, the piece will be open to the public for visits and experiences. #abstractart #flipdiscs #interactiveart #kineticart #artinstallation #art #roboticart #installationart #interactive #design made in #nyc #brooklyn #newyork by @mathew_amonson
It's finally released! “The Pearl,” the world’s largest kinetic sculpture of its kind. This is the largest of all the projects worked on with @breakfaststudio in 2023. This masterpiece is the culmination of over four years of relentless dedication, embodying our team’s blood, sweat, and tears. It’s truly a marvel, standing at an astonishing height of 45 feet (13.7 meters) and spanning 53 feet (16 meters) in diameter. “The Pearl” is intricately crafted with nearly 3,000 computer-controlled Sway-Tiles, BREAKFAST’s newest medium. Each tile is equipped with three custom actuators, enabling movement along 18-inch linear rails, resulting in a total of approximately 9,000 brushless motors. At its core, the sculpture is a tribute to the majestic sea. It mimics the fluid motions of water, wind, and marine life. The kinetic tiles bring to life the dynamic essence of the ocean, with certain movements dynamically responding to real-time wind and tide data from the Caribbean. You can find this sculpture on Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas. #thepearl #kineticart #publicart #art #innovation #sculpture #newmediaart #largestintheworld #artinstallation #design #robotics #roboticart by @mathew_amonson
