Hej! Kia Ora! Hi! Three months ago I received an email from @aostudiosnz asking if I would like to design a pop up for @ikeanewzealand for Christchurch and Wellington. Oh man. Hell yes. I’ve waited 48 years for an email like that. I had to sign an NDA (anyone who knows me knows how hard it was so hard for me not to tell anyone) and had two weeks to do two concepts for Ch Ch and Welly. So I drew and drew and drew, and many happy sleepless nights and mornings later, Yesterday we had the opening and today it was finally opened to the public! The Arthouse pop up is an art gallery showing eight kiwi artists works based on IKEA products. So epic. I did so many designs for the gallery which I will share later! But the one we ended up with worked so well. The ikea blue hue in the interior was a happy surprise and made all the artworks pop. Big massive thanks and big ups to Paul and Scott at AO for super project managing this big undertaking in such a tight time frame with so many moving parts, and to Greg and his amazing build team at @rollercoasterdesign for working out how to prefab it and flat pack into the containers IKEA style and build it so well. Also big ups to the IKEA Australia team for all your hard work to make it what it is! Also big ups for @shadowlotivy for his crazy speedy rhino modelling and late night rendering under tight deadlines to send to IKEA in Australia and Sweden for sign off (will share soon too). Team work makes the dream work! It’s open now for three weeks 10am to 6pm each day for three weeks so pop down if ya in Christchurch and check it out! Also keep and eye out of seven sharp Thursday night. And Welly opening on next week on Thursday 27th Nov! Finally big thanks to my bestie @kyliebladderstone for coming up from Dunedin for the opening, who would have thought building the real pyramid schemer ten years ago in his garage at Muriwai would result in us ending up here! The Euclidean Tower. Paying homage to the Greek mathematician Euclid from 300 BC and point line plane geometry, the tower has its first home at Splore music festival this weekend. A mammoth project starting three years ago, originally designed for Turama festival which was canceled due to Covid then picked up by Splore which was also postponed twice, but not this year! Big thanks to help from so many people. The crew at rollercoaster designs for fabrication, my cousin Sam the builder for putting it together, Cass the engineer for making it stand up, Angus the light master extraordinaire and all the other people who supporting me during the project especially all my mates who helped me put it up, Ben, Brendon, Jeff, Tristan and Alistair and the AMD crew Warren, Hannah, Jared & Tim. Bigs up to Anna and Shea for never giving up on this to make it happen, without your support it wouldn’t be here! M by @matt_liggins

it’s been a crazy ten years since the real pyramid schemer. not much has changed. it’s probably got harder. shits got crazier out there. what do you (we) do? stay aware on what’s happening? hide? ignore? protest? post stories? reshare stories? silence is complicity? this year matthew double poutama becomes the bolt hole wrapped in an emergency blanket a few playschool façade makes a tiny tiny home inside roll the 4 sided dice and open the square, diamond, circle, or arch window diamond once its finished at 9pm, i’m going to bed or I might stay up and ignore the world around me and (escape) play my amiga 500 by myself or go down the internet rabbit hole and try to finish my sphere of influences drawing (sigh) or maybe just make a cup of tea with a stranger (new friend) and have an early night, got another big day tomorrow good night from the bolt hole z zz zzz zzzz zzzzz xxxxxx ooooooo #architecture #art #bolthole by @matt_liggins

Towers of cultures 2 is over and out! Twas a fun semester of sharing ideas, hand drawing and building timber towers to represent your culture. Located in sites of your choice, connect by a pedestrian path, the ground level contained a workshop to make an object and try peddle it in your shop to the public. Above that located studio living and then get away from everyone on the top floor to meditate. So many Lols, ups and ups, learnings and team / city building together. Learnt so much from you all and loved how you all presented your work to the critics and group. Big ups to the super critics @jienwern_cook @samcaradus @tangaroa_birch Enjoy the well deserved break #architecture #art #towers by @matt_liggins

Rakino island bach scan in da lidar cloud. Bigs up to the team at @arclab.works for coming out on the boat for the day and digitising lukes special project.Luke’s @extremeluke grandfather built the bach, and it was enjoyed for decades until a recent storm damaged the roof. The plan is to remove the top level, and build a new prefabricated level on top of the existing stone base. Lots of fun logistics on this one coming up, including a barge, truck loads and pink grapefruit vodka on the new sunset deck. Next stage get the engineer over for a look and work his magic @cass.makes #art #architecture #bach #magic by @matt_liggins
