When Austin suggested hiking the Inca Trail to celebrate our 40th birthdays, I wasn’t exactly sold. 😂 Something about a 30-mile, 4-day hike didn’t sound like a vacation to me. But, Peru wildly exceeded my expectations. The warmth of the people and their sense of community had me in love within the first 24 hours. I even got one of the best fades I’ve had in my entire life. *shoutout the boys at Elite barbershop. The Inca trail pushed me mentally and physically, but the laughs, the amazing people we met along the way, and the chance to disconnect, made every step (70,866 to be exact) worth it. As Machu Picchu finally came into view, butterflies and birds took flight all around me. In my family, whenever we see a butterfly we say “there goes Grampy.” In that moment, I was overcome with emotion. Something I’ll never forget. I came home with a deep appreciation for Peru, its people, and a much needed reminder that the world is filled with beauty, and people who have more in common than social media and the news cycle would have us believe. I’m grateful for every step and everyone I shared it with. VIVA EL PERU. 🇵🇪 by @mattjrhoades
One of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my life. 14k feet above sea level. Hiking the ancient Inca Trail through the Andes, crossing Dead Woman’s Pass, and reaching Machu Picchu. Absolutely unforgettable. by @mattjrhoades
The Inca Trail has been on my bucket list since I was a little kid. Getting to finally experience it with some of my closest friends is something I’ll never forget. It almost didn’t happen. I spent the 24 hours before we started seriously ill with food poisoning, and every one of us got sick at some point - even on the trail. Throw in a few other debacles and we definitely earned this one 😂 Somehow, through all of it, the experience was still everything I’d hoped for and more. Time to shut off, reflect, laugh, and get to know the guys I already know so well a little better. Pretty incredible what a few days in the mountains can do for you. Leaving with a whole new respect for the Andes and so much appreciation for Peru - the people, the language, the culture, the food, and the history. Grateful I got to experience a small piece of it with this crew. There’s so much more I want to see and learn, and I already want to come back. A “once in a lifetime trip” 🇵🇪🏔️ by @mattjrhoades

Pam was my best friend for over 15 years (we think she was 17). We hiked a lot, even Mount Washington. She met so many amazing people at the recording studio and was always up for an adventure. Thank you to everyone who took care of her while I traveled—I’m forever grateful. Pam reminded me to live in the moment and that there’s no such thing as too many walks. ❤️❤️❤️ #vegandog #adoptdontshop #pambeesly by @mattjrhoades
