With the decision to cancel the rest of the year due to coronavirus, our season and my college basketball career is over. I want to thank BC, William & Mary, and UCF for the opportunity to play this game at a high level. It was a long and winding road but I wouldn’t change it if I had to do it over again. It’s hard to express the feeling of not being able to go down swinging in your final year but some things are bigger than basketball. This is not the end but only a new beginning. Thank you to everyone who has been with me along the way 💛 by @mattmilon
Over twenty years ago, my parents took me to the UCF basketball camp and I was introduced to a game I immediately fell in love with. I’d spend hours in the driveway trying to become the best version of myself on the court. I dreamed that I could one day play varsity, then division one basketball, and go on to be a professional where basketball was my only job. After 5 years of playing internationally and living my childhood dreams, I am retiring from the game I love so much. I knew in the back of my mind that this year would provide clarity if I wanted to continue this journey, be away from my wife and family for 8-10 months of the year, and if all of that made sense to continue. This last preseason, I felt the best I ever have physically and mentally on the court. But in our second game, I tore my meniscus. After another injury to make it three knee injuries on the same knee in three consecutive years, mid-season surgery, ups and downs on the court, all on top of missing loved ones back home, the decision is clear for me. I have clarity on what is most important and that is to be present for my wife and my family. It’s time for me to be a husband, and be there full time for my wife who has supported me every step of the way since we met 9 years ago. I can’t thank you enough for your sacrifices to let me live out and pursue my dreams. You’ve been my best friend, biggest supporter, and best partner I could ask for. I’m looking forward to being present, dog walks, Zillow hunting, and the rest of the exciting things that the future holds for us. I have the self awareness to know this is not a huge moment in the basketball world. Nonetheless, it has been my life and North Star. I will appreciate the relationships basketball has helped me build and the person it has helped me become. As the first one to play basketball in my family, I did everything I could to max out my potential as a player. I hope that in the future I can help others reach their full potential, and go to levels that I haven’t. Thank you to everyone who has been there along the way! You all know who you are and I can’t thank you enough! by @mattmilon
Preseason Prep continues this week at @hoopstudyacademy. While we continue building our skills, we will be placing a heavy emphasis on Phase 4 for the next few weeks with live play and live reps to best prepare for the upcoming tryouts and season. Don’t miss out on being fully prepared for your tryout and season, text Cassels at 551.222.5046 to get in the gym with us! by @mattmilon
The days are long. The years are quick. Nobody that I played with looks back wishing that they had done less, it is the shortcuts or what they didn’t do that sticks with them! Build the right habits through the game of basketball, and hold yourself to that standard. Weight room, shots, skill work, live play. It all goes together and that discipline will maximize your career and your life! by @mattmilon
TRYOUT PREPARATION Success at tryouts doesn’t start on tryout day. It starts with how you prepare. At HSA, our goal is to give every player the tools, confidence, and skills they need to stand out when tryout day arrives. Text Ryan Cassels at 551-222-5046 to PREPARE. by @mattmilon

@hoopstudy Phase 4 Chaos X Downhill Paint Finishes Decision making to shoot the floater or attack the rim against the second level of defense is something that must be trained and repped. Not every rep is clean or the right decision in live drills, but players get feedback each rep which leads to quicker learning and better decision making over time. Come grind and get better with us, text Cassels at 551.222.5046 to get in! by @mattmilon
@hoopstudypath Player Spotlight X Zoe Wasserlauf | Penn Women’s Basketball Commit @pennwbb Zoe has been locked in with us in our Path Mentorship Program @hoopstudypath , and her game shows it. She’s a smart, poised point guard who controls the tempo, makes the right read, and brings toughness on both ends of the floor. What really stands out is how she works. She shows up ready, puts in the extra reps, studies the film, and is always looking for ways to improve. She’s also a proud member of The Path and leads by example every day. We’re proud of you and can’t wait to see what’s next! #HoopstudyAcademy #PlayerSpotlight #PennWBB #Committed #ThePath ClassOf2027 PointGuard by @mattmilon
@hoopstudy Phase 4 Chaos x Tight Curls Defenses won’t wait for you to set your feet and take your time to shoot on the move. Come off the screen, catch in stride, and fire without breaking rhythm. The ability to shoot on the move is a skill that must be practiced and @hoopstudyacademy we have been implementing this with our players heavily. by @mattmilon
@hoopstudy Phase 2 Framework Shooting X Star Drill One of my favorite drills to do on your own to make shots off the move. Star shooting was my go to when I didn’t have a partner or a coach to shoot with but still needed to hold myself accountable to make shots for the teams/clubs I was going to play for. Also a great conditioner to get ready for the season while still incorporating basketball. Let’s work! by @mattmilon
@hoopstudyacademy schedule for this week! Every night we continue with an intentional plan to develop our members as complete basketball players and people. Text Cassels at 551.222.5046 to get in the gym with us and reserve your spot! by @mattmilon
