Stitch of @cnn story on @equinox ad which they claimed was an “AI campaign”

People told me the Equinox sales rep was a bad apple at the time but explain their whole marketing team? Their PR team?

i have sm thoughts on this for just a 75 sec video lol here’s some well-constructed thoughts:

At a party in New York City, I learned of a guy who was conflicted on if he was supposed to break up with his girlfriend. So he opened up 16 instances (chats) of Claude, asking it the same prompt. The majority would win. The worst part of this was, he did this on his laptop during a rather serious face-to-face conversation with his girlfriend about whether they were going to break up or not.

While he may have thought he simulated a “jury” of sorts, the 16 chats open are the same model. For example, if the underlying tendency leans 70% toward “leave,” the chatbot will generate around 11 “break up with her” responses and around five “keep the relationship” responses.

So rather than a jury deliberating and giving different points of view, the AI model is more like a weighted coin flipped 16 times, with the result reported as a seeming verdict.

Not to mention, the prompt was told by him alone - fueled by his fleeting emotions. A human assistant may remember, “You seem mad right now, but remember that time she took care of you when you were injured months ago?”

// I wrote this without using AI - check out my completely free substack (purely a passion project) in bio for more! Now that I’m unemployed, I’m starting a blog, simply because I miss writing and want to share the good, bad, and ugly about AI for anyone who wants to read up on it.
