When we’re staging a property to sell and want to really connect with potential owners, we look to accomplish four key things.

First, you establish livability. You want to create a home that people can imagine themselves living in—hosting dinner parties, sleeping late on Saturday mornings, getting ready for work, chasing toddler feet down the hallway.

Add character. Infuse with memorable design elements. Create a sense of a beautiful future.

Empty homes feel quiet and echoey—vacant of that vibrancy of life. And, by contrast, homes that are filled with the current owners’ belongings feel too personal. Like walking in on a private conversation, there’s this unspoken sense you shouldn’t be there.

To create that sense of livability for potential buyers, you want to fill and edit the rooms, establishing a sense of generic wonder.

High-level, staging is the process of establishing your home’s potential. The market is full of noise, bustling and brimming with other properties, so your goal as a seller is to set your home apart and demonstrate its possibilities.

But—pull up a chair and listen closely —this perspective is key: When you’re staging a home, you’re not just selling a property; you’re selling a future.

The individuals and families walking through are making an investment. Financially yes but, more importantly, emotionally. As they explore your home from the kitchen to the living to the bedroom, they’re playing a reel in their mind of how their life could unfold there.

This, to them, isn’t just the potential of a beautiful space. It’s the potential of a beautiful life.

White paint seems simple—until you're 30 samples deep, questioning your eyesight (and your sanity).

But when you get it right? It’s magic. The right white brightens a space, softens the edges, and sets the tone for everything that follows. We’re sharing our favorite shades—the ones we trust in every light, every time.

Rugs can be tricky. Too small, and the whole room feels like it’s floating. Too big, and it swallows everything whole. But get the size just right? Instant polish.

On the blog, I’m sharing our room-by-room guide to rug sizing—because every space deserves a solid foundation (and your feet deserve something soft to land on).

Life gets messy, but your home doesn’t have to show it.

Performance fabrics make room for real life: sticky fingers, surprise spills, and movie night meltdowns. They're equal parts hardworking and beautiful, designed to take a hit and still look good doing it.

In a world of quick fixes and overnight shipping, there’s something radical about taking your time.

Slow design isn’t about doing less—it’s about doing it with intention. It’s the art of choosing pieces with purpose, creating space for life to unfold, and letting your home evolve with you.

Designing a space for one person is a thoughtful act of self-expression. Designing for many? That’s choreography. It’s a layered dance of needs, personalities, and purposes—each calling for their moment in the spotlight.

Shared spaces—your living rooms, dens, open kitchens, family hubs—are the soul of the home. They’re where the coffee is poured, the Legos are scattered, the calls are taken, and the quiet is craved. These rooms hold multitudes. And because of that, they deserve something better than one-size-fits-all design.

If your living room feels like a revolving door or your family den is doing emotional gymnastics trying to be everything for everyone, you’re not alone. The answer isn’t more square footage. It’s smarter, more soulful design.

Today on the blog, we talk about creating shared spaces that feel as beautiful as they are functional—rooms that evolve with your people, reflect your real life, and somehow still look stunning doing it. Read it at our link in bio. by @maykerinteriors

Color doesn’t need to shout to make a statement but it does need to speak to you.

This is for anyone who’s ever stood in the paint aisle, paralyzed by a hundred versions of greige. It’s a guide to choosing color with confidence—not perfection. Because when you lead with intention, your space starts to feel more like you.
