I find it shocking to read so many negative comments surrounding Lindsey Vonn, most likely from people who have never competed on the world stage in anything they do in life.

I am trying to figure out what makes people who were never invested in downhill skiing have contempt for someone who showed an incredible amount of bravery, toughness, and dedication.

Remember, she finished 3rd in the practice runs on that same torn ACL. I admire her decision! Instead of looking at what could go wrong, she decided to look at what could go right; living her life attacking possibilities instead of limiting herself out of fear. She bet on herself for 90 seconds and I for one, will always admire that! She embraced #1 and #5 in the shared graphic; qualities we usually celebrate in our country.

For those condemning her decision did you share the same anger when Jordan played in his flu game? When Kobe chose to take two free throws on a torn Achilles? When Curt Shilling pitched in the ALCS with a ruptured tendon? Or how about when Phillip Rivers played with a torn ACL in the AFC Championship game?

Were they selfish? Should they have not competed because it may not have worked out? Should they gave let someone else play in their place? Why the negative comments for Vonn but not the above athletes?

I wish her a speedy recovery and thank her for being a true inspiration, showing us how to face difficulty, doubt, and fear in the face, even when the result you desire is not guaranteed!! by @mbsperformancecounseling

upLIFT women 🏀

This past weekend, we had the opportunity to join @mckenzie.walker12 in hosting the upLIFT women basketball workshop. This was an event to introduce young female athletes to all of the different components that go into making any athlete successful.

20 athletes from different schools all over the state and county were introduced to a sports psychologist, skills trainer / coach, and strength & conditioning coaching to expand their knowledge surrounding performance and the preparation that goes into playing at the highest level.

The girls met with Ryan of @mbsperformancecounseling to talk about a handful of topics surround sport psychology and performance. They learned strategies surrounding; overcoming setbacks, managing performance anxiety, building confidence / motivation, and creating an environment to best manage the stressors of being a young athlete.

Coach Greg with @oakdalewbb then ran the group through fundamental dribbling, passing, footwork, and shooting drills. Teaching the importance of fundamentals can never be overstated enough. Master the basics!

Finally the group began vertical jump testing with @301_performance and then they were lead through a full workout. We emphasized proper jump and landing mechanics to learn to properly yield forces. We then introduced the group to fundamental movement patterns. For many of the girls this was their first introduction to any kind of strength & conditioning training so we made sure technique was sound across the board and then began to push intensity and created a fun environment where athletes can build confidence and work hard.

A huge shoutout to @mckenzie.walker12 for bringing this project together in an attempt to impact the trajectory of these young athletes.
