What an afternoon we have had at our Halloween Danceathon today, with 45 dancers from across our EMotion, and Local Motion programmes coming together at our studio in costumes that ranged from the wonderfully spooky to the slightly bonkers 🎃 It’s not often we get all of our groups in one room, and seeing our youngest EMotion dancers sharing the floor with our brilliant Local Motion crew reminded me exactly why we do what we do, because movement brings people together in a way that very little else can ❤️ A huge thank you to our tutors @sambarnett103, @wardiesworld, @marinad4l and @alexness1993 who kept the energy going all day, to our volunteers @dionnelm09, @chloeb.xo, Elizabeth and Sophia for the your support and endless patience, and to every family who have sponsored them 🙌 So far we have raised £1968 towards our next years showcase. We’ll be sharing photos and videos over the next few days, so keep an eye out and tag yourselves if you 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝘁 your best moves, and if today has inspired you to join one of our classes in the Vale of Glamorgan, drop us a message, as we would love to welcome you 💃👻

What a privilege it was for our young dancers to perform at the Mayor of Barry’s Civic Service at St Mary’s Church yesterday ❤️ A huge thank you to Mayor Sian Thomas for inviting MCD to be part of such a special day in our town, our 30 dancers performed a selection of dance pieces beautifully and you could feel how proud they were to share their dancing with the community 🌟 Thank you to our tutors - Sam, Jodi, Jamie and Marina for all the rehearsals, to our wonderful families for getting everyone there, and to the team at St Mary’s Church and @Barrytowncouncil for making us so welcome 🙌 We hope this is the first of many times our dancers get to celebrate Barry together 💃 #MotionControlDance #Barry #ValeOfGlamorgan #CommunityDance #BarryTownCouncil by @mcd_ance

We were so honoured to be in a room last night with a variety of charities celebrating the fantastic work that Wales is achieving. We may not have been the winners in our category but we are beyond proud to be recognised for the meaningful work that we do in the Vale of Glamorgan #communitydance #mcd_ance #dancecharity #inclusivedance #charityawards by @mcd_ance

Sending the biggest good luck wishes to every charity, volunteer and community group shortlisted at the Welsh Charity Awards tonight ❤️ After 25 years of running our own small charity here in the Vale of Glamorgan, I know just how much hard work, heart and late nights go into keeping the doors open and the support flowing, so to see so many incredible organisations from across Wales being recognised for what they do is something really special 🌟 Whatever happens tonight, every single one of you has already made a real difference to the people and communities you serve, and that’s what matters most 🙌 Enjoy every minute of the evening, celebrate how far you’ve come, and we’ll be cheering you all on from here 💃

Honoured to be nominated for Iconic Health and Wellness Influencer and Women in Social Impact & Changemaker at the South Wales Awards 💛

For 25 years I’ve been building Motion Control Dance so that everyone, of every age and ability, gets a chance to dance. The People’s Choice is decided by public vote, so if my work has made a difference to you, I would be so grateful for your vote. The link is southwalesawards.com/vote/n/15355 👇

I am honoured to be told that I have been nominated for two awards at the South Wales Awards, Iconic Health and Wellness Influencer and Women in Social Impact & Changemaker, and I’m still taking it in.

Twenty-five years ago I came home to the Vale of Glamorgan at a time when my life felt like it had ended. Dance was the thing that brought me back to myself, and I wanted to build a place where it could do the same for other people. With no business training and no roadmap, I started Motion Control Dance one class at a time. Today it’s a charity where people living in the Vale can all find somewhere they belong and have a chance to dance. Being recognised for that work means more to me than I can put into words.

The People’s Choice award is decided by public vote, so every vote counts. If my work has made a difference to you, your family or someone you love, I would be so grateful if you could take a few seconds to vote for me here 👇

Thank you to everyone who has danced with me, believed in me and kept me going along the way. I couldn’t have done any of it without you 💛 by @mcd_ance

🖤 October is Black History Month, and as a dance charity we want to take a moment to celebrate the Black artists, teachers and communities whose creativity shaped so much of the dance we share in our studios every week, because jazz, tap, hip hop and street dance all grew out of African and African diaspora traditions, and our dancers move to that legacy every time they step onto the floor
Here in Britain, Jamaican-born dancer Berto Pasuka founded Les Ballets Nègres in London in 1946, widely recognised as the first Black dance company in Europe, then in 1981 three young men from Leeds started Phoenix Dance Theatre, and in 2001 Cassa Pancho founded Ballet Black to give Black and Asian dancers the place on the ballet stage they had too often been denied 🌟 Closer to home, Cardiff's Butetown is home to one of the oldest Black communities in the UK, and that history is part of the story of South Wales too.
Here is a throwback to the wonderful Black Lives Matter performance by Diversity from 2020
