IDENTIFY & MENTOR

As a Mentorship Program, MSMP is constantly on the lookout for outstanding 'efforts' within our practice area for both potential mentees and mentors. As such, we onboard and get down to work!

Utilizing one on one tutelage, masterclasses, workshops and project support, we seek to sharpen further that which has potential for sharp.

One such session as seen here conducted by an experienced practitioner in the field of production planning & excecution and also communication development @sir.oyosa who we are always more than happy to have around and share in his wealth of knowledge.

Have you mentored someone today? Please ensure you do and transfer your knowledge for more value.

What does life after film school actually look like? 🤔

At MSMP, we’re intentional about the conversations we bring into the room, especially the ones that prepare our mentees for life beyond the set. 🎬💼

We’re excited to welcome @_winnienjoki 🥳 CEO of Transitions With Winnie, Transitions Coach, Mentor, and Global HR professional, for an upcoming session focused on the opportunities available to filmmakers, and how to position yourself to step into them.

Building a career in film goes beyond what happens on set and trickles down to understanding where your skills can take you next 🚀

Looking forward to learning, unlearning, and stepping into what’s next with Transitions With Winnie! 😃

Masterclass #14 closed out our first round of physical sessions with power. Day 2 was all about conversational set etiquette, hands-on departmental deep dives, and of course—shooting a scene.

Theory + Practice = Progress. We're not there yet, but we're miles ahead.

A massive thanks to @jacksonkangethe and our amazing mentees Lenny Nyabuto (@_simba.raw_ ), Jayden Muriithi, Joseph Onamu (@media.amadeus )and Minho Takei for their time and dedication. An extra big thanks to Wangui 'Koi' Ngunjiri for supporting what we do at MSMP, your generous contribution towards the welfare of our team during the masterclass is well recognized and appreciated.

We'll be back with more in early 2026. The climb continues! 🎥🔥

After 13 foundational virtual masterclasses, we’ve taken a major leap with our first in-person, specialized session. Cinematographer Jackson ‘Sparrow’ Kang’ethe @jacksonkangethe is equipping our cinematography team with the core technical and procedural knowledge for a professional set—from gear checks to workflow architecture.

Lenny ‘Simba.Raw’ Nyabuto (@_simba.raw_ ), Minho Takei , Jayden Muriithi, and Joseph Onamu (@media.amadeus) are honing their crafts in this hands-on intensive masterclass, gearing up for a significant team production in early 2026.

A new month means new pages in our scripts, new frames in our reels, and new opportunities to lift each other up.

Here’s to a September filled with blockbuster ideas and the award-winning collaborations to make them happen.

A huge thank you to the incredible Cecimercy Wanza for an invaluable session at MSMP! As an award-winning filmmaker, @cecimiah is dedicated to amplifying untold African stories with raw authenticity.

Her hot take? The biggest directing myth is that it's just calling "action." In reality, it's about vision, empathy, relentless problem-solving, and orchestrating "accidents." It's a role that starts long before the set.

We wish you continued prosperity, Ceci, and hope you'll be back to share your new experiences with our mentees soon! 🎬

Theory is good. Practice is better.

Whatever you set your mind to, the real growth comes when you do.

That’s why at Mcheza Sinema, we learn filmmaking by making films.

𝗪𝗲’𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗲 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗮𝘁 𝗠𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘇𝗮 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗺𝗮.

In one of our sessions, we explored the 𝗥𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗿 𝗙𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 — a simple yet powerful approach to giving feedback that is both kind and clear.

𝗪𝗵𝘆?
Because in filmmaking (and life), feedback shapes trust, performance, and culture. And when we care personally while challenging directly, we build teams that thrive — on and off set.

Here’s what we’re now practicing as a team:
💡 Building trust by showing care beyond the work
💡 Driving performance with specific, actionable feedback
💡 Protecting culture by addressing issues early and respectfully

We’ve also embraced the C.O.Re Method — a 4-step way to turn praise into growth.

We’re actively applying these lessons and we’re inviting you to try them too. Whether in your crew, your office, or your creative circle, see how Radical Candor changes the way you work.

In filmmaking, every misstep is part of the script.

At Mcheza Sinema Mentorship Program, we embrace the stumbles, the reshoots, and the “cut—let’s try again” moments. Because every single failure is a lesson, and every lesson brings us closer to mastery.

📽 Fail forward. Learn faster. Create better.

𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗚𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿!

When it comes to storytelling that moves hearts and challenges perspectives, Joan is a force to reckon with. An award-winning Kenyan filmmaker, Joan is passionate about amplifying overlooked voices through character-driven narratives, often featuring strong, fearless female protagonists.

She’s not just a filmmaker; she’s a voice amplifier, a mentor, and an inspiration. In our last two mentorship sessions, Joan has poured her wealth of industry knowledge into our Mcheza Sinema Mentorship Program, leaving our mentees not only wiser but also more fired up to create and navigate the film industry.

We’re deeply grateful for the time, insight, and generosity you’ve shared with us, Joan. May you keep soaring higher as we take your lessons and work towards shaping a film industry in Kenya, and beyond, that tells stories with impact!
