This will probably be my last brown trout of the year to comfortably break the kilo mark. And what a way to round off the season. She fell for a Muddler Minnow.

Not every brown trout heads into the spawning stream each autumn. Some skip a spawning season, sometimes even several, putting growth ahead of reproduction. For those of us who enjoy hunting down the bigger specimens, that’s good to know. There may be a few surprises out there, even when the spawning season is in full swing.

This one turned out to be a female, but with no roe in her abdomen. A reminder that not every trout follows the same schedule.

Caught, admired, and released. CA&R😉See you later! 1,5 kg then?

One of the best condition jacks I’ve caught off the point , I can’t tell you enough of the importance of changing lures while fishing this one was caught on the second cast .
I did put this one back thought he deserved his freedom and who knows maybe one of the kids get him tomorrow, and that’s what it’s about. by @mcleannet

Beautiful wild brown on a jig streamer. Had a great trip to central PA this past weekend. @sageflyfish @tiborreels @yakodasupply @costasunglasses @mcleannet @orvisflyfishing @rockytalkies #centralpaflyfishing #paflyfishing #flyfishing #onthefly #browntrout by @mcleannet

💫NIGHTTIME SEATROUT💫

A night by the river, chasing seatrout under a restless sky. The wind was pushing through the trees and clouds were drifting across the sky — but between them, the stars were shining brighter than ever, with shooting stars lighting up the darkness. ✨

I started at one spot, spooked 2 fish. After that, I moved, changed my fly and kept fishing.

10 casts later…

BANG! 💥

Sometimes all it takes is one change, one cast, and one unforgettable moment. 🎣

Thank you for a fantastic fly pattern @seatroutdreams and thanks for the actual fly @dennisflynder 😎🎣

Quiet water. One unforgettable moment. 🎣

There’s something special about chasing wild seatrout in a small river. Every cast holds the promise of something incredible.

Today, that promise became reality with this stunning 72 cm (28”) male seatrout. After a fierce fight and a quick photo, he was released back into the river—right where he belongs.

These fish are too valuable to catch only once. Seeing him swim away was just as rewarding as the catch itself.

Moments like these are why we keep coming back.

We do have long and cold winters in Norway, still summer can be pretty hot. 86 F/30 C outside and too hot to do trout lip piercing. Puhhh 🥵I rather edit some old stuff and stay calm😊

Fly fishing tip:
How to secure your fishing net while wading.
#flyfishing 🇳🇴 by @mcleannet

After a day of rain, the fog lay like a veil over the water and the surrounding landscape. The air was heavy with moisture, and everything seemed muted and still. The day before, I had discovered the first empty pupal shucks along the shoreline—a sure sign that the caddis hatch was underway. Then the choice was easy. The caddis fly earned its place at the end of the leader.

Caddis fishing is rarely about intricate presentations or millimeter precision. Cast out, retrieve, and let the fly do the work. The method is simple but effective. I cover large areas of water in a short time, far more than during midge or mayfly fishing, where the fish often have to be targeted more deliberately.

When the caddis cuts through the surface, it leaves behind a distinctive V-shaped wake of small, subtle ripples. It may seem modest to us, but to a hunting trout it is a signal that is hard to ignore. Time and again, I have seen how these small wakes trigger the fish’s instincts—first a shadow beneath the fly, then a swirl, and suddenly the calm surface is broken by a decisive rise.

Mayfly!
Ephemera Danica season in Ireland can cause otherwise sensible people to loose the plot for a couple of weeks 🤭
I spent my time between freezing, boiling and getting completely obsessed with a single giant trout that I eventually hooked and lost (calling it a draw🤣). I did score on the Paraglider mayfly in the end.
