The process of making this poster for @the.locl in collaboration with @cassette50s ✨

I saw a Mehfil poster before I had anything to do with it, and I remember thinking, I want to work on something like that. I don’t even know how to explain it properly, the concept, the way it looked, it just felt different from everything else I was seeing.

So when I got the call to actually be part of it, it took a second to sink in.

And then working on it changed what I thought it was. It’s not an event, or a showcase, or people performing for a crowd. It’s a room where people sit together and let themselves feel something at the same time.

I think we’ve all gotten quiet about our lives. We don’t say when it’s bad. We don’t ask for help, it feels like too much to put on someone. So you just carry it.

Mehfil doesn’t fix that but it opens a small door. You show up, you sit, you listen, you say something or you don’t. And you leave knowing it was never just you.

But the thing that pulled me in most was how much of it comes from where we’re from. I’ve always loved that stuff, old music, poetry, the way people used to just sit around with nowhere to be and no reason to leave. Evenings that went on because nobody was checking the time. Someone singing and everyone else just listening, not recording it, not doing anything else. I don’t think we have much of that left. Everything moves so fast now and we’ve all gotten used to it, and for me, Mehfil felt like a small way back.

That’s what I was trying to hold on to while making these. Not to recreate those evenings exactly, because I don’t think you can, but to keep something of how they felt. by @me3rab_

Mehfil made sense to me in a way I didn’t expect. The calm of it. The slowness. Evenings that don’t ask anything of you. That’s exactly the kind of vibe I’ve always been drawn to.

Here’s the entire Mehfil experience, wrapped up. From concept to final execution — swipe through the process. by @me3rab_

introducing a ‘cat school’ to teach bittu some manners kyun keh mai toh na sikha saki.
jk ive no regrets spoiling you, let the other humans stay mad! 😼 by @me3rab_

tere bina laage na mora jiya.🤍

this is how i imagine bittu was created. God took a piece of cloud, rolled it, squished it, placed blue eyes on it, and gave them permanent grumpy expressions. put two ears and yes, a very sensitive heart that would feel even the slightest absence of my attention. jdjsjsjwje i could spend the rest of my life just looking at you and never look away even for a sec, if that’s what you want. iloveusomuch.

big thankyou to @rmnfzz for stepping in and fixing the mess i created with this animation 😭🫶 by @me3rab_
