𝑰𝑭 𝑬𝑽𝑬𝑹𝒀𝑻𝑯𝑰𝑵𝑮 𝑷𝑬𝑨𝑲𝑺, 𝑵𝑶𝑻𝑯𝑰𝑵𝑮 𝑷𝑬𝑨𝑲𝑺.

Something I’ve been observing in the music scene lately is how often DJs play banger after banger, keeping the energy at a constant high throughout an entire set.

And there’s absolutely a place for that.

But for me, music is a journey. And just like the body needs to breathe, I believe a musical journey needs to breathe too.

It needs space.

Moments where the energy softens, where the music is allowed to unfold, where we create room for the next build.

It’s in those softer, quieter moments that we create contrast. And through contrast, the peaks become that much more powerful.

Sometimes it’s the space between the peaks that makes the journey unforgettable.

What a beautiful experience opening such an epic event with a 2.5-hour musical journey, curated for the Soul Kitchen dinner experience.

A big thank you to @soul_kitchen_collective for bringing this incredible experience to life. Such a privilege to share the lineup with amazing artists @playground_twins , @stirling__za @dirty.doering , @dinomoran and everyone who contributed to making the evening so special. 🙏❤️

This set was created to accompany a dinner, so perhaps give it a listen over a three-course meal this weekend and relive a little of the magic. 😉👨‍🍳

From downtempo and organic sounds into deeper, hypnotic grooves… a journey from beginning to end.

𝐋𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐲 𝐈 𝐝𝐨 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐝𝐨 🤍

I’ve had the privilege of playing music to hundreds of people, and I knew last night wasn’t going to be a packed one. But I went in with the same intention I always do.. to share the music I love. At one point during my set, there was just one person on the dance floor. And he danced from beginning to end.

During the set, he came up to me, deeply emotional, and shared that he’d recently been through a divorce. He’d searched online for something to do, stumbled across my event and felt called to come. He told me that the musical journey I’d taken him on was one of the most healing experiences he’d ever had.

I somehow knew there was a reason he was there that night, and in that moment it all made sense. I captured this photo of him completely lost in the music, his hand raised, while Need to Feel Loved was playing.

It reminded me why I fell in love with music in the first place. Sometimes we play for hundreds, sometimes thousands, and sometimes the music is meant for just one soul.

For me, it’s never really been about the size of the crowd. It’s about sharing my love for music and hopefully making someone feel something along the way. And if that music can touch even one person’s life, help them heal or simply make their night a little better, then it’s all worth it.

Sometimes one soul is enough.

This is why I play 🤍

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗠𝗕𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚

This weekend felt less like discovering something new and more like remembering what was already there.

I don’t need to chase connection.
I don’t need to force the next chapter.
I don’t need to explain who I am.

Be present. Be the observer. Open the curtains and let the light through.

I am enough. I am whole. And from that place, everything becomes an offering.

Music taught me the same thing this weekend. A dance floor doesn’t care about perfection. It cares whether you can feel it. Whether you can listen. Whether you can let the room feed you while you feed the room. Whether you can allow the music to breathe.

Make love to the music.
Seduce, don’t force.
Tell a story.
Create a space where people can forget themselves long enough to remember themselves.

And maybe that’s what Mecca has always meant to me.

Not a destination.
Not an image.
Not something I need to convince anyone of.

A frequency. A meeting place. A remembering.

Whatever you pour enough love into grows.

Life is the gift.
Presence is the prayer.
And the purpose of the gift is to give it away.

𝐈 𝐚𝐦 𝐌𝐞𝐜𝐜𝐚
And the story is only beginning.

Born at the Burn, Mecca is a Cape Town-based DJ and producer whose sound is deeply inspired by his travels through Africa, the Middle East, and beyond.

Blending organic house, Afro house, progressive and melodic techno, and tribal rhythms, his sets are carefully curated journeys designed to move both body and soul. Drawing inspiration from ancient cultures, sacred spaces, and transformational experiences such as Afrikaburn, Mecca creates immersive musical experiences that connect people through rhythm, emotion, and storytelling.

Known for his ability to intuitively read a crowd and guide the energy of a dancefloor, each set unfolds as a unique journey, building from deep, organic grooves into uplifting melodies and powerful moments of collective connection.

For Mecca, music is more than entertainment; it is a vehicle for transformation, celebration, and bringing people together.

My heart is filled with so much love and gratitude after a week in the desert surrounded by such beautiful souls. 🖤

Thank you to every single person who co-created the magic, shared a dance, a conversation, a sunrise, a hug, or a moment on the playa.

Deeply grateful to everyone who came to my sets and journeyed with me through the music. The energy exchange was something truly special.

Already inspired and looking forward to creating even more magic together next year.

Until next time…

Returning to Afrikaburn…

Where it all began.
Where the dust, the music, and the moment meet again.

I’ve been preparing a series of journeys for this year,
crafted with intention, depth, and energy for the playa.
