Three daughters of Malcolm X are suing the CIA, FBI, the New York Police Department, and others in a $100 million lawsuit Friday for playing roles in the 1965 assassination of the civil rights leader.

In the lawsuit filed in a Manhattan federal court, the daughters and the Malcolm X estate — claimed that the agencies were aware of and involved in the assassination plot and failed to stop the killing.

Born Malcolm Little on May 19, 1925, in Omaha, Nebraska, Malcolm X lived in several places across the Midwest and East Coast, including Detroit; this is where he adopted the former name, Detroit Red. X often communicated his love for the city.

His six daughters are:
Attallah Shabazz(66)
Qubilah Shabazz (63)
Ilyasah Shabazz (62)
Malikah Shabazz (RIP, 9/30/65 - 11/22/2021)
Gamilah Lumumba Shabazz (60)
Malaak Shabazz(59)

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan says he won’t seek a fourth term in office. The 75th elected official announced to a crowd of supporters and city staffers that “it’s time”. This came shortly after announcing this would be his last term as mayor. He is serving his third four-year term, he’s the second longest-serving mayor behind Coleman Young, who was elected to five terms and 20 years.

The city has seen a consistent decline in population since 1958 however in recent years, Detroit has had a growing population of 1,852 residents between July 1, 2022, and July 1, 2023, bringing its population to 633,366.

With Duggan’s current term ending in January 2026, who do you think will be Detroit’s next Mayor?
