She’s done!

Nothing like a 60% Alpaca and 40% Wool scarf to nestle into on this 70 degree day.

It’s mid-November and I live in the formerly frozen tundra.

I love this scarf and look forward to enjoying some outdoor adventures when it cools down.

Pausing to take a look back as I inhale and begin moving forward again.

It’s official. I never really thought of my birthday as a summer birthday and since summer is my least favorite season and my birthday is one of my most favorite holidays, I am publicly declaring that August 28th is officially the beginning of fall (for me). You are welcome to join me in the observance of fall if you wish.

I’m kicking off this adventure by knitting a fancy scarf. Pattern by @brooklyntweed. Yarn 🧶, needles, yarn winding, and extreme kindness provided by @knittingfromtheheart.

Thank you for helping me today and for being kind and enthused with me. Xo

Another day…. Another two-page spread. When I sat down to paint, I paused and scanned my body. Nothing in particular stood out or stepped forward.

One layer at a time, I added and edited as I went.

Bits of the process reminded me of how it felt to make a layered piece on canvas. It’s time to start a new one for August.

At any rate, this two-page spread made me smile and let out a deep exhale.

There’s an image emerging on the left side that makes me very curious. I love it when this happens.

Better out than in.

When everything simply feels like “too much” it’s best to just grab a few supplies and let the feelings out through my fingertips.

Creating with my hands (rather than a paint brush) feels grounding and holds a strong connection between me and what lands on the paper.

I felt so much lighter when this was done. There was space to breathe.

Let it out.

.
I can’t breathe. I can’t breathe. I can’t breathe.
The words of George Floyd and so many others.

These words are uttered when one experiences violence, an asthma attack, trauma... And so many other occasions.

When I have the opportunity to bravely speak about things very close to my heart. Things I’ve experienced alone. Things that are traumatic, my body holds those events in my throat. Sometimes it holds them so tightly it feels as though I cannot breathe.

I can’t breathe.
