POSTS STORIES REELS

Moody post incoming.

Today, after nearly three years of work, I’ve completed my first novel.

I don’t talk much about my writing over Instagram. I know that most people started following for my pole, not for my captions. But, as much as I love pole, I’ve loved writing even more. We’ve had a deep, lifelong bond, and so much of myself was discovered through my connection to words.

As soon as I could write, I began storytelling. I remember writing story after story when I was five, romance stories, horror stories, fantasy stories, dystopian stories before I even understood what that genre was. I wrote voraciously. I was bursting at the seams with stories.

In college, I experienced a huge writing growth-spurt. I sharpened my style under the mentorship of some incredibly talented writers. I realized, uncomfortably, that I wasn’t the best in every room. I learned humility and temperance, sometimes against my will.

There were long bouts of not-writing as I grew older. But I knew my need to write would never truly go away. It was always there for me to discover again, as many times as was necessary.

The original draft of this novel was written when I was only fifteen years old. I wrote about fifty pages and then stopped suddenly. At the time, I didn’t know why I stopped. But, now, I know it was because I wasn’t ready to tell this particular story. It would have to wait seventeen more years. But, the whole while, it was forming inside of me, shaped by great joy and great suffering that only comes with growing up.

I can’t even begin to guess how many hours I’ve spent with my laptop, alone in my living room, basements during family parties, hotels, secluded cabins in the mountains, apartments across the world, writing this book. Hundreds. Maybe thousands. A creation process that has traversed the globe.

To finish it is such a strange feeling. It’s surreal to create, full stop. Making something from nothing.

Now time to navigate the foreign waters of publishing. Finally. And work on Book 2.

Oh, and if you have any questions about the book, feel free to ask. I think I’ve left everyone in the dark long enough.

Cheers. 🖤

Policies exist for a reason. 🖤

As we chat more about small businesses this November, let’s keep in mind the above. ⬆️

Running a small business in this economy is hard enough, but we as pole studio owners do it because we love our students, love what we do, and want to share that love with whomever we can! However, that love doesn’t make us immune to burnout, emotional overwhelm, and fatigue with constant requests for discounts, refunds, & the like.

And, because studio owners are front-facing & many students see + interact with them daily, the professional boundaries are blurred. There is more comfortability from the client side to make requests you would not usually make from big corporations.

So before you send that email asking for an extension, please remember studio owners are human, too, & for the studio to continue operating, there must be policies. 🖤

We love all our students and hope to see you in classes soon (but not more than 5 minutes late 😉)

Trying my hand at this downhill split. ✨

It is SO HARD to make this split look flat 🥴 but I tried my best. I think it would be nice to extend the leg at the end, too, but I forgot in the moment 😭 next time!

O c t o b e r 🍂

Throwback to three octobers ago when I was a fairy under a bridge.

Autumn is a very melancholic time for me, but I’m welcoming the colder months with as much hope as I can 🧡

Happy World Pole Dance Day ✨

Oh pole. You are a fire in my heart, burning for years and years now. The first thing that truly belonged to me, that no man, no chaos, no pain could touch. I will always have you, even when I’m too old to invert - I’ll have our life together to look back on, and know I’ve spent my short time on earth doing what I loved. 🌙

Scenes of Summer 🐚

Another summer gone. I feel like it was just yesterday I was walking with Sean around the block in spring, admiring all the baby robins that were finally able to hop around out of their nests. The first time we walked to get ice cream at Mason’s, the first time we let the windows open, the first time I laid out on the balcony with a book… and now it’s autumn again, and the sky is dark, and the wind is chilly. Just like that, summer leaves. 🍂

But what a beautiful season it was. Family, friends, pole, sunshine, beach days, quiet evenings watching fireflies, reading, writing, finishing my third novel.

The older I get the more I try to look around in the moment and say: “this won’t last forever.” Not to make myself sad or sit in premature loss, but to really appreciate what I have when I have it. So much of our lives are spent racing towards a finish line, only to completely miss what’s important.

Anyways, if summer teaches us one thing, it’s that it always comes back. 🌞 I’m working on loving the earth (and myself) in all of her seasons.

Until next time.

🧡

This evening is permanently marked on my brain. Probably my favorite of the summer. At Linwood Park, walking around barefoot as night fell over the lake and all the fireflies came out. It was pure magic.
