As I sit here in gratitude, I can’t help but think about everything it took for me to get here. 💙 This year I’ve hit so many walls. I’ve heard no more times than I can count. From other people, from circumstances, and sometimes from myself. Plans changed, things fell through, and Ghana was one of those changes. I was originally supposed to leave August 21 and spend almost five months in Ghana. I thought five days with my family after my internship would be enough before leaving. Then my trip got pushed back almost two months, cutting my time in Ghana down to 3½ months. At first, I saw it as time I was losing. Now, I see what I was being given. These last two months in Florida gave me time with my mom, my immediate family, my Tallahassee family, and most importantly, time to just be. To travel, rest, pour into Ohemaa Essence, and dive deeper into who I am and who I want to become. Living in Houston with almost no family around is something I’ve adjusted to, but being home reminded me just how much I needed this. I thought I was losing two months in Ghana. Instead, I was given two months with my family, Ohemaa Essence, and myself. What a blessing. Thank you to everyone who has poured into me, not just for Ghana, but through Ohemaa Essence and life, period. Every donation, purchase, share, prayer, check-in, opportunity, connection, and word of encouragement has meant more than you know. I’m learning that what is meant to flow must also be nurtured. So in this season, I’m saying yes to me. Yes to self-love. Yes to family. Yes to rest. Yes to challenging myself. Yes to building something of my own. Yes to the people and experiences that pour back into me. I’m grateful for my ancestors, my family, my Titis, my Babas, my friends, my community, and every version of me that kept going through every wall and every “no.” And now, 3½ months in Ghana. 🇬🇭 I’m excited to meet the woman I become on this journey. To see what she learns, what she lets go of, what she creates, and what she brings home with her. Here we come, Ghana. 🇬🇭💙 https://cash.app/$CreationsByDeNya by @melaninn.d
