I hope to see you soon! by @melaninsilentreading

Last week I was looking at my page and realized how much I missed how my feed used to look.

I was posting random book thoughts and taking part in trends.

I didn't care how my page looked.

For the last little while, my bookclub has been taking over my page and I can't say I'm happy with that.

While the bookclub is part of what this page is all about, that was never the main reason why I joined the Bookstagram community.

It was to meet new book friends and to see what everyone else was reading.

This is what I'm slowly going back to starting today.

I was a Bookstagrammer first and the Host of the Melanin Silent Reading Club second.

What does this mean in regards to keeping those up to date with MSRC events?

That will still happen but I'm going to mainly post in my stories and add them to my highlights.

Of course this is how I'm feeling right now. We’ll see how I feel in six months.

There have been many changes to MSR in the last two years and I'm still navigating all the changes.

Creating balance isn't as easy as I thought it was going to be.

Before anyone suggests that I create a new page solely for the bookclub, that isn't something I want to do at this time.

For those who have been with me since day one, thank you.

If you're fairly new around here, thanks for joining me on this bookish journey of mine.

Here's to finding myself on this platform again.

I hope you'll continue to stick around.

Here is my 10 before the end even though I most likely won't finish this trend #moodreaderproblems

Memoirs are my favourite genre but I've only read 3 this year 🤦🏾‍♀️.

Here are the ones I would love to read before year end:

📚 Haben by Haben Girma

📚 The Greatest by Muhammad Ali

📚 The autobiography of Malcolm X by Alex Haley (I read this in College but I want to reread it)

📚 Scenes from my life by Michael K. Williams

📚 Off the record by Peter Mansbridge (pictured on the next slide)

Black Romance is my second favourite genre but I've only read 5 this year 🤷🏾‍♀️.

Here's to hoping that I'll be able to squeeze these in:

📚 The sweetest remedy by Jane Igharo

📚 Ties that tether by Jane Igharo

📚 The boyfriend project by Farrah Rochon

📚 The dating Playbook by Farrah Rochon (pictured on the next slide)

📚 The list by Yomi Adegoke (pictured on the next slide)

How many books do you think I'll finish reading?

I won't be offended if you tell me zero 😂. by @melaninsilentreading

All of the social events we've had over the last few years have been great but nothing will ever beat sitting down and reading in silence with your book Besties.

Have you read any of these beauties? by @melaninsilentreading

Hey, friends, hey 👋🏽👋🏽.

It’s been 41 days since I've been here and it's so good to be back.

This break was much needed and it's something I'm thinking of doing on a yearly basis.

Life lately has been nothing but a rollercoaster but I'm alive and well and God continues to be faithful.

I’ve missed you and I'm ready to dive right back into the world of Bookstagram.

How's it going?

How has life been treating you?

Tell me the best books you've read in the last month and a bit.

I'm currently on the last book in the Bennett series by Kennedy Ryan. I'll share my thoughts on this series soon.

Phew Chile! This book was A LOT!

Forget The House of Eve. I'm renaming this book, The House of Torment.

Can you imagine being a pregnant teenaged girl and being sent away to a place like that???

I'm so glad I wasn't born during that time period because I don't think I would have survived.

My heart definitely went out to Ruby and Eleanor because I've experienced some of what they both went through.

Can we talk about family secrets for a quick sec? This book was full of them.

In Eleanor's case, she's one lucky woman that her's didn't destroy her marriage.

…and William??? He needs to stop sucking on his Mama's breast and cleave to his wife. Ugh! I can't STAND men like him!!

Trigger warning:

⚠️ Abortion

The House of Eve by Sadeqa Johnson, 5 stars.

❓Putting Ruby's living situation aside, do you think she made the right decision? Let's talk about it! by @melaninsilentreading

I'm sitting here in front of an empty baseball field with “The House of Eve” reflecting on this rollercoaster of a week.

I started this week with zero hope and zero faith.

Everyday this week I've been hit with bad news after bad news after bad news after bad news to the point I thought I was going to lose my damn mind.

Yesterday I mentioned to @noizwithbooks that I needed a “water turned into wine” kinda miracle.

On my way home from the library yesterday, I looked up and saw the most beautiful rainbow.

My eyes watered and I felt a sudden rush of peace and the first word that came to mind was HOPE.

I know storms aren't meant to last always (mind you, there was actually no rainstorm last night but that’s besides the point) but when you're going through it, it's hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

If you're currently going through a storm, I pray that it ends soon.

If you know of someone going through a storm, please check on them.

Even if you’re not able to give them everything they need at this time, just knowing that you're there and thinking about them can go a long way.

To @naesnextchapter and @simplyreadwithv, thank you for your prayers. It means a lot.

To @mommyconnectionsdurham and @noizwithbooks - you two have really helped me get through this week. I appreciate you both!

Here's to hoping for better and brighter days ahead 🙏🏾.

Now, tell me the highlight of your week 👇🏾. by @melaninsilentreading

I attended the opening ceremonies for the @cdnblacklitfest with @girlscandream.too 's reading club last Saturday.

I was able to record the majority of Dwayne Morgan's piece.

Who else is tired of being labeled as a "strong Black woman"?

It's high time we trade in that title and exchange it for "A safe Black woman. A seen Black woman. A loved Black woman. A healthy Black woman."

I started at least four books this month and this was the only one I was able to finish.

What is your favourite book so far this year? by @melaninsilentreading

August has been kicking my butt and I'm not happy!

I've only finished one book this month.

I started, "Would I lie to you?" on Saturday and haven't picked it up since.

Anytime a book I'm currently reading goes untouched for 2+ days, I always restart it (I was only 33 pages in so it's no big deal).

Am I the only one that does this?

Or does this weird bookish habit only have my name on it?
