❓How many eggs are humans with ovaries born with❓
…
As a fetus early in development, a baby with ovaries has around 6 million eggs. 🥚
…
The number of these eggs (oocytes, to be precise) is steadily reduced so that when the baby is born, they have between 1 and 2 million eggs left. ✨

IN THE NEWS | THE NORTHERN VIRGINIA DAILY✨

Thank you to journalist Laura Ruby and The Northern Virginia Daily for the thoughtful coverage of our two fall exhibitions and the artists whose work brings them to life.

BETWEEN SHORES: THE PROMISE AND THE PERIL brings together 12 artists exploring the beauty, mystery, and unpredictability of water and the natural world.

FAMILIAR ELSEWHERE: WORLDS ON THE EDGE OF TRUTH features Jody Mussoff and Olga Sushkova, whose drawings and paintings explore memory, imagination, longing, and the wonderfully unexpected.

As I shared in the article:

“You shouldn’t have to travel to Washington or New York to have a meaningful encounter with contemporary art.”

It’s a belief that has guided the gallery from the beginning, and one we’re delighted to share with our community.

JOIN US THIS FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16 | 6–9 PM

You’re warmly invited to the opening reception of both exhibitions. Meet the artists, explore the galleries, and enjoy live jazz by Quentin Walston @quentinwalston , wine, and good company.

Free and open to all.

Anatomy of a sculpture.
When we see a work of art in a pristine gallery setting it’s hard to imagine the journey of its creation.
Here’s a little look behind the curtain.
…
This piece is called “Noonday Calm”. Made of steel and acrylic, it was inspired by my summer in Maine learning to sail for the first time.
…
It’s part of the current exhibition at @ichiujigallery titled “Between Shores: the promise and the peril”

I spent a lot of time in my dad’s shop when I was a child. I begged him to give me jobs to do. I was so proud sitting on a high stool with my feet dangling sanding burs off of aluminum parts he made for NASA.

When artwork and art collector vibrate on the same frequency. ✨ This is Yolanda Cole. Architect extraordinaire. This piece was so much fun to create. What a pleasure.
Here she is installed.

It’s been a month + since I’ve posted anything and honestly I needed a minute to step back. The summer was wonderful and now things are picking back up for a whirl-wind of Fall excitement.✨
New work, new studio space, new exhibition at @ichiujigallery …stay tuned for news to come.

Here’s a little behind the scenes glimpse into the process of creating a commission combining my textile sculpture with a welded steel botanical wall design.
I’ll be installing her today in a beautiful home for a very special collector.

The joy of sharing what I’ve learned about the artists and artwork on view in or current exhibitions at @ichiujigallery continued yesterday with a small private group.
Today is the final day of our shows SLOW IMAGE and The Good, the Bad and the Naughty.
It has been a fantastic run and smashing success on so many levels.
Come see these amazing works before the shows come down.

❗️The Gallery will be closed all of August.❗️

Thank you to the artists who participated in these exhibitions and everyone who came to appreciate the amazing works.

If I don’t see you today…See you in Autumn 🍂
