Brenda Fricker and Juno photographed for today’s Sunday Times for her new film The Swallow at Dublin International Film Festival.

She was exactly how I imagined her. Refused to get a photo without Juno and was delighted I didn’t ask her to smile because “James Joyce once said never trust someone who smiles too much, and I agree with him.” by @melmullan

When I first moved to London 12 years ago with the hope of becoming a photographer, @claire.lynch46 and I used to look through her issues of National Geographic Traveller and talk about how they were the dream to work for. So much of a dream that when I got an email back in January asking me to photograph a feature I thought I was being pranked. I’m always excited to see my work in print, but this is something special. I haven’t stopped smiling or crying today. 😂

A special thank you to Patrick, @gastrogays, who wrote the feature because without him I wouldn’t have got this opportunity. by @melmullan

It’s a funny thing releasing prints for sale.

For me, some images evoke a memory - the beach with too many steps to the bottom in 40 degree heat and 9 weeks pregnant and a long drop filled with creatures I walked back out; the roadhouse where we could hear the dingos howling while lightening flashed around us or the mountain that was full of marsh flies we only made it out of the car for short bursts. Others are images that create a feeling. Whether it’s an urge to jump into the sea, or a moment of calm - or maybe it’s just darn nice to look at. I don’t know what my point is other than to say I’ve a few new prints available for sale. Link in bio. by @melmullan

A very accurate representation of how Revolut says I spent maternity leave thanks to @therockbakery. by @melmullan

An oldie from a trip to Croatia for the Irish Examiner the year before last. We’d spent the day out on the boat with blue skies until they weren’t!⛈️ by @melmullan

We drove across the Nullarbor when I was 9 weeks pregnant. I had been so sick up to this point that Joe wanted to put me on a flight and drive on his own, but I refused. It was so hot during the day that we just kept driving as the thoughts of stopping and setting up camp in the heat was too much. We arrived at the road house just as the sun was setting. Diesel here was almost double what we paid anywhere else, although still less than what we’d pay today. I woke up in the night to dingos howling and our rooftop tent swaying from the storm outside. It was incredible. Glad I didn’t take that flight. by @melmullan

A few shots from a lovely shoot last year with @brianwoulfe for Range Rover and IMAGE Magazine, including the beautiful interiors of @roisinlaffertygallery. by @melmullan

Not a single photo of the three of us on our first family holiday but a memory card full of lovely light on lovely buildings. Will never not love wandering San Sebastián. by @melmullan

Three days into our journey our car wouldn’t start. It was a Sunday morning and we were in Mackay, not even seven hours from where we’d started. We got the car towed and booked ourselves into a motel for the night, to discover the next day that it was the starter motor that had gone and it would be a couple of days before the parts arrived. We were in a part of the city that was pretty far out, surrounded by motels and little else. We had to move motels during our time because of availability. Our new place required us to pay a deposit in case we trashed our room and I woke up in the middle of the night to what I can only presume was a possum scratching at the window above my head. We were never so excited to get on the road and out of Mackay. by @melmullan

Making my way through the many photos from our time in Australia, so many which I’d taken and not looked back at, plenty of memories to reminisce on. The majority are of the landscape, but these few are from the days we wandered the cities and towns. by @melmullan
