POSTS STORIES REELS

My textiles hero piece I did for Kahu 💜💜💜 from the collection I made called “Gniiiiight”, named after many late nights of texting eachother before school. This is 1/4 in a collection about my love/grief for my friend.

This one is a whopping 1.5 metre square satin pattern repeat showing me and him wandering, at different ages out of time and linear place, through my reimagining of our childhood and hometown. All the trees and places and powerlines are redrawn from places that exist or did at one point - my granddad’s lemon tree, the hillside eucalyptus and the hillside bench etc etc.

Kahu passed away in 2020 and I’ve gone into my young adulthood often thinking about how he was supposed to be here with me - how certain I used to be that he would. I’m proud of this work because it lets me take him with me and show the space he takes up in my life. I could speak about this endlessly tbh!! But the core ethos of the work was that grief is love changing - and it’s ok to take that love with you!

Thank you @photos.by.isaac for the photos on slides 2-5 :)) !!

shoutout to the free shelf at my uni + trying to be more accomodating to my natural messiness and let myself work the way I want to ….. results seem positive!
I miss having more people in the studio but getting a bigger desk near the window has been pretty cool :D by @memento.merli
