✨🙋‍♀️ I have some new followers this month so I thought I would introduce myself!

👩‍🎨 I'm Mercedes Joy. I have all sorts of creative endeavors from body painting to jewelry making, but I mostly focus on painting and illustration as the bulk of my work.

💫 My art is inspired by nature, spiritual credence, and a never-ending belief in magic stemming from a childhood reading books about fairies, dragons, Greek mythology, and (you wouldn't believe it) scary supernatural stories.

🐢 I grew up in Michigan, USA where I would find endless inspiration in the painted turtles, garter snakes, robins, cardinals, and so many of Earth's wonderful creatures right in my backyard.

🏖 I've spent the past four years across the world in Perth where I have been soaking up sunshine and oceanic medicine and learning about another culture.

🔮 The creative process has always been a way to channel my boundless mental energy and calm me, and I can't thank my parents enough for allowing me to explore this side of myself since I was very little.

🌠 Thank you for coming along for the ride!

The leaves are turning already! My ode to the transition from summer to fall is this new artwork, Wisdom and Peace. A vibrant meeting of cosmic forces and summer abundance.

@feteduvoid you were so fun and whimsical! Great community vibes! The music was diverse like the rainbow, and I only captured a couple of things on my phone so here's a wee dump.

Temps were steamy so shoutout to Lisa who was the best booth neighbor ever and let me loiter around with her cats during the day in air conditioning to beat the heat 😺 by @mercedesjoyknapp

My latest visual meditation is complete, titled Bountiful Skies. The two subjects I was most passionate about drawing growing up were horses and dragons. I think the new season of House of the Dragon was my little weekly reminder of this.

Dragons are a potent symbol of empowerment and protection. They are a great subject for tattoos, so the wearer always carries a talisman of protection with them.

Honestly, this has been a tough weekend so far as a teeny tiny business owner and I am mentally struggling to get through it. But as I say halfway through every rough event, "it ain't over til it's over!" Wearing your Sunday best on a Saturday helps, amazing weather helps, and the music is some of the best I could ask for 😁
