This coming Sunday, our event team will be working together with the Friends of Figges Marsh and @mertongardenstreets on a bulb planting event to encourage children to get enthused about gardening and taking care of our urban green spaces - as well as having fun, of course! Stick around after our event this Sunday if you’d like to get involved. by @mertongardenstreets

Thanks @mertongardenstreets for the Spring bulbs! Meopham Pocket Park will look even more beautiful this Spring thanks to you 🌼🌻🌷🌺🌸🌹 by @mertongardenstreets

🌱🌼 Planting for the future at Malmesbury! 🌼🌱

What a wonderful afternoon! 💚 As part of our Greening the Malmesbury Community project and our 25th anniversary celebrations, our school community came together to plant bulbs in our KS2 playground.

A huge THANK YOU to all the parents and families who joined us and generously brought some lovely bulbs. 🥰 And a special thank you to @mertongardenstreets for donating additional bulbs and helping us make our planting project even more successful! 🌼

Every bulb planted is a small step towards making our school greener, more colourful and more biodiverse, providing a beautiful spring display for our children and valuable food for early pollinators. 🐝🌷
We can't wait to see our daffodils bloom next spring! 🌼💜

Together, we're growing a greener Malmesbury! 🌍💚

Last night’s action (aka group session) kicked off with bulbs being delivered by bike to three strategic rendezvous points across the borough. 🚴

As darkness fell the @GoodGym volunteers split into smaller teams and set off on foot to make the drops to the @mertongardenstreets (a @sustainablemerton project) community. 📦

This logistical feat may only happen once a year, but it’s always a firm favourite for clocking up steps while covering plenty of ground. 🚶

Merton is going to look fantastic come spring! 🌷

🌱 That’s a wrap on our 2026 Community Planting Weekends! 🌱

Almost 100 streets across Merton came together for our final planting weekend of the year, transforming tree pits, verges and front gardens with pollinator-friendly plants. 💚🌸🐝

The weekend also coincided with @merton_council Car Free Day, giving several streets the chance to close their roads to traffic and bring neighbours together for a brilliant day of planting and community action. 🌿🏡

Our main planting season might be coming to an end, but there’s still plenty to do this autumn! 🍂 Next up: seed saving and planting spring bulbs ready for a colourful, pollinator-friendly spring. 🌷🐝

A huge thank you to @merton_council for their continued support through Merton’s Investing in Neighbourhoods and Community Climate Action Funds. 🙏💚

🌸🌿 Exciting news from Meopham Pocket Park! 🌿🌸

We’re so excited to share that we’ve officially submitted our entry for Merton in Bloom 2026! 🌼💚

What started as a forgotten corner has become a beautiful community space thanks to the kindness, hard work and generosity of so many amazing neighbours and volunteers. Every flower planted, bug hotel built, cup of tea shared and hour volunteered has helped create something really special. 🌱💛

Whether we win or not, we’re already incredibly proud of what our community has achieved together. This entry is a celebration of everyone who has helped make Meopham Pocket Park a place where nature, friendship and community can bloom. 🌸🐝

Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far — we’re keeping our fingers crossed! 🤞🌼

🌿 Last opportunity to take part in Merton Garden Streets 2026 🌸

Whether you have tree pits, verges or other spaces that could be brought to life, becoming a Merton Garden Street is a lovely opportunity to get neighbours together, brighten up your street and create more spaces for pollinators. 💚

If your street registers now, you’ll receive:
🌱 A starter pack of plants and a bag of compost for a community planting day in September
🌷 Spring bulbs delivered in October
🤝 Support and advice to help you get started

And as we’re moving towards the end of summer, the watering commitment should hopefully be a little less demanding too! 💧😊

The @GoodGym Merton team had a busy night this week helping @friendsofraynesparkstation and a nearby @mertongardenstreets road - watering the embankment, pruning overgrown brambles, and weeding to keep our streets chemical-free.

It was lovely to have several locals stop to thank us, including a familiar mobility scooter user delighted to have a clear path again!

Jobs ticked off, path cleared, and straight to the pub for drinks and birthday celebrations 🍻🎂.

Group sessions are what we look forward to every Monday - why not join us and get fit while doing good?

Did you know that by signing your street up to Merton Garden Streets (MGS) @mertongardenstreets, run by @sustainablemerton, you can get together with your neighbours to plant up verges and tree pits AND opt out of the borough-wide pavement herbicide spray?

This fantastic initiative brings communities together while boosting biodiversity, improving air quality, and reducing flood risk 🐝.

If you opt out of the herbicide spray you and your neighbours need to manually weed the pavements which is no small task and @GoodGym Merton volunteers are regulars helping the MGS SWAT teams across the borough 💪.

While there is a strong push for a permanent borough-wide ban on glyphosate, we need to keep green spaces thriving safely in the meantime.

Want to help keep Merton's streets green?

Here’s how to get involved:

1️⃣ Check the MGS link in bio to find out if your street is registered

2️⃣ Once registered, rally your neighbours to start planting and to keep on top of the weeds. (Pro tip: bribing them with cookies helps! 🍪)

Or make a donation - we would benefit from a few small hand tools that are easy to carry and will help us clear the weeds quickly (also at numerous other jobs we help with!), get in touch at merton@goodgym.org.

New to GoodGym? 🏃

We are a friendly group of volunteers who keep fit by doing good. Every week across Merton, we help out local charities, green spaces, and community groups. There’s zero commitment: join whenever you can, meet great people, and give back to your neighbourhood.
