I’ve been metal detecting since 1976. Currently swinging the XP Deus II. Proudly retired professional Fire Fighter/EMT.

It was around this time 50 years ago that I bought my first metal detector at age 12. It was a kit detector I purchased for a few dollars at a garage sale. It was a crude machine that used a transistor radio and you would listen for a change in sound at a set frequency. A few months later I received my first new machine for my 13th birthday, a Whites beachcomber. The picture is from today in my parent’s yard where I turned on and tuned that first machine. All though I didn’t find much with that kit machine I knew I was hooked just from the thrill of the hunt. I spent a few hours in my parents yard today as a tribute to that first day so long ago. To this day I get the same feeling every time I turn on my machine. ❤️This is the best hobby in the world!!! #whitesmetaldetectors #minelab #xpmetaldetectors #xpdeus2 by @metal__detecting_wis

Pieces of 8 in Wisconsin? I was on a recent hunt with my good buddy Tim @ill_digger when I got a nice mid 80’s target on the Deus II. I was thinking another zinc penny. You can imagine the surprise when this beauty popped out of the dirt. A cut 1/4 1757 Spanish 8 reale, a true piece of eight. The cool thing is @ill_digger found his own Spanish silver less than a week later. Check out his page to see his amazing find in an Illinois corn field. #xpdeus #xpdeus2 #metaldetecting #wisconsintreasure #piecesofeight by @metal__detecting_wis

By far the nicest piece of flatware I found in the last 48 years of detecting. It has the name Helen and 09 engraved on it. I’m guessing, maybe part of a wedding set. #xpdeus2 #xpmetaldetector #silverware #antiquesilverware #antiquesilver by @metal__detecting_wis

I hit the modern nickel quadruple today. 5 modern Jefferson’s, 2 silver war, 2 buffalo and 1 V. #xpdeusmetaldetector # xpdeus2 #nickel #treasurehunting by @metal__detecting_wis

I had an amazing day today with the XP Deus 2 using the 9”coil. 7 pieces of silver, 5 coins, a sterling religious pendant and antique spoon. 2 buffalo nickels, an Indian head cent, 4 wheat cents an a V nickel ( not pictured) #xpmetaldetector #xpdeus2 #antiquesilverware #treasure by @metal__detecting_wis

Checked out a new permission today. An 1860’s homestead, a rarity that part of it is still standing. This place was at least a 1/2 mile off any road. What a peaceful place to spend my day. #xpmetaldetectors #homestead #xpdeus2 #xpfinds by @metal__detecting_wis

I had an amazing 4 days of detecting with my best buds. We made some great new memories. I can’t wait for our next adventure. @ill_digger @full_metal_digger @futurebleeps @thehistorydigger #xpdeus2 #metaldetecting #silver #gold #treasure by @metal__detecting_wis
