Argentine artist @robertoplate (b. 1940) has developed a singular practice spanning painting, installation, and scenography for more than five decades. After studying in Munich and joining the avant-garde movement surrounding Buenos Aires’ Instituto Di Tella, he settled in Paris, where he continues to live and work. His work has been exhibited in major institutions, including the Museum of Modern Art and the National Museum of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires, and is held in prestigious public collections such as the CNAP. Balancing architecture, illusion, and painterly gesture, Platé’s work quietly explores the relationship between space, memory, and perception. Created in 1996, Sans Titre by Roberto Platé reveals a more gestural approach to painting, animated by broad movements of colour. Intense reds and ochres meet a pale blue, while a strong white vertical anchors the composition. Pigment and gouache reveal the movement of the brush, overlapping layers and variations in texture. Between spontaneity of gesture and the construction of space, Platé creates an almost scenographic image, in which each colour seems to occupy its own plane while contributing to the rhythm of the whole. This fall, Meyer Zafra reimagines its interior once again, creating a new dialogue between art and design. Even without a motor, the manipulable works by @manuelmeridastudio remain absolutely fascinating. In fact, they invite an even greater level of participation from the viewer, creating a more intimate and direct connection with the artwork. We truly become part of the work itself. Moreover, even when the piece is not rotating, it remains magnificent, as the pigments continue to shift naturally over time under the effect of gravity, subtly transforming the composition from day to day. For Art Basel Paris Week, Meyer Zafra also introduces works by @robertoplate into the gallery. In his paintings, colour unfolds across large fields, where subtle variations in surface and the meeting of contrasting tones create a sense of depth. The apparent simplicity of the composition gives way to a more spatial experience, as colour itself begins to define the way we perceive the work. LA MATIÈRE AVANT LE NOM September 10 to December 24, 2026 Matter shifts, light transforms the reliefs, and forms appear suspended between emergence and disappearance. At the heart of the exhibition, Kar’s Formless collection, explores the space between furniture and sculpture. Tables and seats retain their function while resisting conventional definitions, their irregular surfaces and fluid volumes evoking rock, clay and matter shaped slowly by time. Kar’s work brings a distinctly tactile presence to the interior. Each piece appears to have emerged from a process of transformation, preserving the trace of the gestures, pressure and movement that formed it. Rather than imposing a fixed identity on the object, Kar allows the material to remain open, unstable and alive. In Manuel Mérida’s work, the composition remains in motion. In Francisco Salazar’s, white becomes a sensitive space, continually renewed by shadow and by the movement of the gaze. Together with Kar’s sculptural furniture, these works create an interior in which form, function and material remain in constant dialogue. @meyerzafra x @galerie.philia Curated by @ygaelattali and Héloïse Zinger Credit Photo: @studio.brinth by @meyerzafra
