POSTS STORIES REELS
Michael Hedges – Pure (Windham Hill) rel 2006 There was acoustic guitar before @michaelhedges_official and then there was acoustic guitar after Michael Hedges. Released in 2006 as part of the @windhamhillofficial Pure series, this compilation gathers signature recordings from one of the label’s most innovative and influential artists. Hedges approached the guitar as if nobody had bothered to tell him what it was supposed to do. Open and alternate tunings, harmonics, two-handed tapping, percussive techniques, and harp guitar all became part of a musical vocabulary that could make one player sound like an entire ensemble. Produced across the original recordings by @williamackermanguitar , Steven Miller, and Michael Hedges himself, the collection traces a career in which extraordinary technique was always in service of something bigger: the music. That may be Hedges’ greatest legacy. Plenty of guitarists have learned his techniques. Nobody ever quite sounded like Michael Hedges. 🎧 Listen now on your favorite streaming service. #MichaelHedges #wh50 #WindhamHillRecords #acousticguitar by @michaelhedges_official
Since 1976, when @williamackermanguitar pressed a few hundred copies of a solo guitar record for friends, @windhamhillofficial defined a genre and sold millions of albums across generations of listeners. Fifty years later, on November 1st, the artists who created the soundtrack for those generations gather at @thefreightberkeley : Will Ackerman, @lizstoryofficial , @alexdegrassiguitar @barbarahigbie , @darolangerfiddler , @michael_manring , @scottcossu , Fred Simon and Ira Stein, together on one stage for the first time in decades. The celebration runs all day, beginning at 10AM with performances woven between panels featuring the artists, the label’s staff, and the writers and filmmakers chronicling its history, including rarely seen footage of Michael Hedges and material from The Quiet Revolution, the forthcoming documentary about the label by filmmaker @tskloot . The evening concert follows at 7PM. During the daytime panels, filmmakers @mischahedges & @brendanhedges will present in-progress scenes from the upcoming documentary “Oracle: the Life & Music of Michael Hedges” TICKETS at LINK IN BIO by @michaelhedges_official

Michael Hedges – Watching My Life Go By (Open Air/Windham Hill) rel 1985 After two groundbreaking instrumental albums, @michaelhedges_official took a very different turn with Watching My Life Go By. Released in 1985, the album introduced Hedges the singer-songwriter, with vocals on every track and a broader palette that included guitar, bass, flute, synthesizer, harmonica, and even wine glasses. The record features nine Hedges originals alongside a striking interpretation of @bobdylan “All Along the Watchtower.” Guest appearances include longtime collaborator @michael_manring on fretless bass and @bobby.mcferrin on vocals for “The Streamlined Man.” More restrained than the “violent acoustic” guitar style that first made his name, Watching My Life Go By reveals another side of Hedges’ artistry—personal, melodic, and willing to take risks beyond the instrumental format. 🎧 Listen now on your favorite streaming service. #MichaelHedges #WH50 #AcousticGuitar #MichaelManring #BobbyMcFerrin by @michaelhedges_official

New post on the ‘behind the scenes’ blog: “Photographing Michael’s 38 Guitars,” by @brendanhedges, Co-Director, Oracle For the first time in many years, Michael’s guitars left the vault where they have been in storage. First stop? San Francisco – to photograph each of them for an upcoming project, and prepare them for their new homes… Legendary rock photographer @jayblakesberg and his assistant @talchemisty joined us for a full day in a studio in the Mission District as each of the guitars was perfectly captured for an online gallery, and an upcoming limited edition coffee table book, “The Guitars of Michael Hedges.” This was also the first part of a larger journey they’ll take to reach new homes where Michael’s fans can view them (more on that later!). The footage captured during this photo shoot will be featured in a key segment of “Oracle,”: as part of a series of present-day stories that comprise the film’s third act. On hand for the session were Hilleary Burgess, Michael’s manager, Jake White, who is completing the first, full biography of Michael, “Dream Out Loud: a guitar hero’s journey,” and @mischahedges, Michael’s son and “Oracle” co-director. Music at Old St. Hilary’s is excited to present a tribute to legendary Windham Hill guitarist Michael Hedges, featuring Teja Gerken, Michael Manring, Janet Noguera, and Jeff Titus. For this concert, acclaimed Bay Area fingerstyle guitarists Gerken, Noguera, and Titus will perform both pieces by Hedges and ones inspired by him, on a variety of guitars and harp guitars. Electric bass virtuoso Manring, a former touring and recording partner of Hedges’, will play solo and ensemble pieces. Long-time Bay Area flautist Larry Kassin will join as a special guest on a selection of pieces. New BTS post - "Behind the Scenes: Getting Deep, Editing ORACLE." Co-director & editor @mischahedges reflects on the editing process, after several months of work with writer / co-director @brendanhedges to assemble a rough cut of the upcoming documentary, ORACLE: the Life & Music of Michael Hedges. " Editing a documentary is a fully immersive process – it becomes a part of your everyday. With hundreds of hours of footage to review, tens of thousands of decisions to be made, and the fact that it often takes a week or two to cut a single scene together, means I’m looking at the same emotional moments for dozens of hours in a row." - Mischa Hedges Read full post at LINK IN BIO #michaelhedges #acousticguitar #heavymental #acousticthrash PHOTO CREDIT: @kaareiverson by @michaelhedges_official
