Jak vypadá večer s Art Part Clubem? 🖤 Třeba včera jsme navštívili Národní galerii v Praze @ngprague 🖼️ Společně se zakladatelkou klubu Annou Pulkertovou @Anna.pulkert jsme si prohlédli výstavu NGP 230 let a povídali si o vzniku Národní galerie i o historii Veletržního paláce. Potom jsme si sedli ke stolu s Michalem Novotným @michail_novotny, ředitelem Sbírky umění po roce 1945. 🥂 A vedli jsme diskuzi nad posláním a rolí Národní galerie kdysi i dnes. Děkujeme, Michale, za společný čas! Komentované prohlídky, setkání s lidmi, kteří české umění tvoří a spravují i debaty, ke kterým se běžně nedostanete. To jsou pro naše členy a členky pravidelné výhody klubu. ✨ Chcete taky zažívat českou uměleckou scénu zblízka a potkávat její zajímavé osobnosti? Přidejte se k nám. Odkaz na členství najdete v biu. 👆 #narodnigalerie #veletrznipalac #komentovanaprohlidka #umeni #artpartclub by @michail_novotny
𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱. For curator Michal Novotný, the Igor Zabel Award brings recognition to often overlooked forms of cultural work—art writing, art history, and curating—that shape how art is understood and remembered. ➠ Novotný is Director of the Collection of Art after 1945 at the National Gallery Prague and served as Commissioner of the Czech Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2024 and 2026. He recently co-curated Gen Z: All at Once! at the MO Museum in Vilnius, bringing together emerging artists from eleven Eastern European countries. At the National Gallery Prague, he co-curated 1939–2021: End of the Black-and-White Era, challenging binary narratives of Czech art before and after 1989. Together with his curatorial team, he has developed a programme examining the social and political dimensions of art. 2026 Igor Zabel Award Nominators • Aleksei Borisionok, curator, Vienna • Jakub Gawkowski, art historian and curator, Museum of Art, Łódź • Flaka Haliti, artist, Berlin • Angela Harutyunyan, art historian, curator, and educator, Berlin • Elena Narbutaitė, artist, Vilnius • Lívia Nolasco-Rózsás, curator, art historian, and educator, London • Michal Novotný, curator and Director of the Collection of Art after 1945, National Gallery Prague • Boyan Manchev, philosopher, Sofia • Hana Ostan Ožbolt Haas, curator and art writer, Vienna • Magda Radu, art historian and curator, Bucharest #IgorZabelAward #MichalNovotny by @michail_novotny
Do diskuse vstoupí různé odborné a profesní perspektivy. Cílem cyklu je vytvořit prostor pro kritickou reflexi fungování Národní galerie, jejích veřejných rolí a podmínek, které ovlivňují její další směřování. → 6/11 2026 Jakou roli má Národní galerie v demokratické společnosti? → 19/11 Jak instituce prostřednictvím sbírek a výstav spoluutváří dějiny umění? → 3/12 Komu je Národní galerie otevřená? 📍 Veletržní palác 🎟️ Vstup zdarma, rezervace přes GoOut. ℹ️ Na webu najdete témata a hosty jednotlivých večerů. Přijďte přemýšlet s námi o tom, jaká má Národní galerie být. Rezervujte si místo. by @michail_novotny
Today we’re featuring an opinion piece by MOST co-editor-in-chief Katie Zazenski @kathryn.zazenski , “On Seeing and Being Seen in a Phygital World,” a reflection on the exhibition “Gen Z. All At Once” at MO Museum @momuziejus (Vilnius) curated by Michal Novotný @michail_novotny and co-curated by Marius Armonas @zlatko_tiric Gen Z. All At Once takes as its subject artists born around and after the collapse of state socialism, the so-called “generation of freedom”: a generation for whom the transition into liberal democracy and capitalism in much of the region is not something experienced firsthand but a condition inherited. At the same time, these artists largely belong to a generation whose engagement with images, image- and meaning-making, relationality, and knowledge-building has been shaped by another transition: from the physical, external environment into a far more interior “phygital” realm of the Internet. A space that is now nearly as impossible to be free from as it is our own bodies. What I found in the exhibition of 22 artists was an unexpected re-emergence of materiality and sculptural form, a sharp, snarky sense of humor despite the hellscape dystopia we’re living through, and an extreme level of performativity of the self; something between self-consciousness and self awareness that I couldn’t name until reading the interview with curator Michal Novotný in the exhibition catalogue. When asked about what first piqued his interest in Gen Z, he said that he began noticing a distinct shift in his first-year students at the academy beginning around 2016: “…it became clear to me that this was the first generation to spend most of their adolescence on social media…What stood out most was an emphasis on creating a ‘persona’ within their art. Interestingly, this went hand in hand with a strong insistence on authenticity. Yet from my perspective, it didn’t feel authentic at all – or at least not in the way I understand the term. That tension between claimed authenticity and constructed self-image is something that has stayed with me.” Read the full text on our site, mostmagazine.org #mostmagazine #artculturepolitics #momuseum #vilnius #genzallatonce by @michail_novotny

Photographs by @shotby.us , @ryon_storyteller Special thanks to the Publishing Department of the National Gallery Prague and @tiskarna_helbich for their careful production. The catalogue will be available from the preview days, May 6–8, at the @labiennale bookstores. “In 2026, the Czechoslovak pavilion in the Venetian Giardini celebrates its hundredth anniversary. It is a somewhat peculiar jubilee, since the country whose name is displayed on the pavilion no longer exists. In 1993, Czechoslovakia was dissolved into two states, the Czech and the Slovak Republics. Since then, the pavilion, in its unassuming yet dignified architectural presence, has endured questions over how it should be split or expanded, to adjust it to the logic of fragmentation, separation, and competition so characteristic of the world today. Yet what better way to honor a centenarian on its birthday than to bring back to life, even if temporarily, the pavilion’s original spirit of geopolitical collaboration, which was once rooted in an anticipation of a shared future? Hence, this Czecho-Slovak collaborative project… is a humble attempt to do precisely that.” Excerpt from Peter Sit’s curatorial text in the catalogue for The Silence of the Mole at the Czech and Slovak Pavilion, Venice Biennale 2026. by @michail_novotny

Na Blogu CVJ pokračujeme další úvahou – tentokrát z perspektivy letošního porotce a laureáta IV. ročníku CVJ (2016) v kategorii etablované kritiky Michala Novotného. @artalk_info @artcasopis @artycok.tv @csupraha #spolekskutek by @michail_novotny
